Structure of the 2021 High School Literature Exam
The Vietnamese language subject is one of the top three most important subjects alongside Mathematics and Foreign Language. It is also quite challenging, requiring students to have a solid understanding of not only the 12th-grade literature curriculum but also that of the 11th grade. The exam duration and structure of the 2021 Vietnamese Language Exam still resemble that of the 2021 National High School Exam, including:
- Reading comprehension section:
There are 4 questions with the following contents: Identifying aspects of the text (genre, expressive techniques, etc.) or knowledge of Vietnamese (parts of speech, rhetorical devices, etc.); based on the text, explaining a keyword or drawing a certain meaning from the text; making comments about a certain object in the text; providing an opinion extracted from the text, requiring candidates to express their views on that opinion.
- Essay section:
+ Social argument essay: Requires candidates to write a paragraph of about 200 words expressing their thoughts on a hot social issue currently happening in life or a certain philosophical idea.
+ Literary argument essay: This section has more significant changes compared to the 2020 exam, where the difficulty level will be increased. The exam will integrate knowledge from both 11th and 12th grades, with the majority of the knowledge focusing on the 12th-grade literature curriculum. The content from the 11th-grade literature curriculum will account for one-third. The exam questions will be open-ended, allowing comparisons between literary trends, comparing two works by the same author, or comparing certain aspects of content... Therefore, students need to pay attention to updating and selecting the most effective review direction.

With the changes in how the national high school literature exams are conducted in 2021, high schools across the country have come up with various plans to prepare students for practice and cannot do without assessment tests to help students review, reinforce the knowledge they have learned, and become familiar with the exam format set by the Ministry of Education and Training.
