2. Grade 4 Essay Sample: Describing my pen
Essay number 1:
I often dream of having a fountain pen like my friends. As if understanding my thoughts, when returning from a business trip to Ho Chi Minh City, Dad bought me a beautiful Hero pen.
The pen is fifteen centimeters long. Its body is round like my mom's middle finger, made of synthetic plastic, smooth and shiny. The body is green like a slim chalk stick. The pen lid is made of shiny gold-plated iron, with an additional gold-plated pin used to attach to a shirt pocket or put into a bag pocket.
When I open the lid, I see the shiny nib attached to the nib, firmly stuck to the pen barrel. Inside the pen is a thin and durable rubber ink sac used to hold ink. Every time I need ink, I just press the iron tube covering the ink sac flat, dip the pen nib into the inkwell, release my hand, and the ink is sucked up from the bottom of the well onto the ink sac, lasting all day without running out.
It can be said that since having my beautiful and soft writing pen, my writing pages have become cleaner and brighter compared to when using a bamboo pen.
It's been several months, but my pen still looks as new as when I first bought it: cute and very new. Every time I finish writing, I always carefully close the lid and put it in the pen case, placing it on the shelf with my study tools.
Essay number 2:
I often dream of having a fountain pen, but my dad says, 'You'll get one when you're in third grade!'. Then one day, when dad returned from the city, he called me over and gave me a Hong Ha pen, similar to the Chinese pen that Nam, my friend, sits next to me, has.
The pen is almost as long as a handspan. The body is small and round, like an adult's little finger. The entire pen is made of smooth synthetic plastic.
The body is green like a slim chalk stick. The lid is also green but with an added stainless steel clip used to attach it to a shirt pocket after writing. When I open the lid, I see the shiny nib attached to the nib, firmly stuck to the pen barrel. Inside the pen is a thin but very durable rubber ink sac used to hold ink. Every time I need ink, I just press the flat rubber sac and dip the pen nib into the inkwell. After releasing the sac, the ink is drawn up from the bottom of the well onto the rubber sac, lasting all day without running out. It must be said that since I got the Hong Ha pen, my handwriting seems to be much neater and softer. My lessons are fully written without having to waste time on ink staining like when writing with a bamboo pen. The writing pages are also cleaner, with no ink smudging like before. After writing, I usually wipe the nib gently with a cloth, then close the lid and carefully put it back into the pen case.
It's been several months, but my pen still looks new. The pen has been working diligently with me every day to achieve high results in my studies.
3. Grade 4 Essay Sample: Writing a letter to grandparents inquiring about health
Essay number 1:
Kim Boi, June 20, 2005
Dear grandparents,
We hope this letter finds you well. We, your grandchildren, Trung, the son of Dung and Thuy, write to convey our warmest wishes for your health and happiness. We also wish Uncle Vinh and Aunt Trang good health and joy. We hope you are all in good spirits, enjoying good food and restful sleep, just as we do. Are you still following your diet and herbal remedies as last year? Our parents plan to visit Da Nang in August to welcome you back to our hometown for the family's ancestral memorial day.
Grandpa, grandma! We have some good news to share. Our brother Linh and sister Ngoc have started working and earn nearly five million dong per month. Our parents are very happy. As for me, I have completed my final year of primary school and been admitted directly to grade 6 at Tuần Châu High School for the 2004-2005 academic year. I received a reward of 10 notebooks, a golden brown leather-bound notebook, and a certificate of commendation from the Education Department of Diễn Châu district for achieving second place in the Mathematics category of the district-wide Excellent Student Contest for grade 5. Our parents said: 'It's worth the effort to endure the rain and study hard, making you proud, grandparents.'
I promise you that in grade 6, I will study harder, excel academically, and diligently help our parents with household chores.
This year's harvest is good. The three orange trees you planted long ago are still thriving, bearing abundant fruits. This orange season, we look forward to welcoming you to our garden. Mom said: 'A tree's life is like a human's life. Only with skilled hands and good fortune can oranges grow.' The orange trees are in full bloom, emitting a fragrant aroma. As the oranges ripen to a golden hue, looking at the trees, the fruits, the flowers... reminds me of you both a lot.
We hope to see you in August, enjoy your company, and hear your fairy tales. Once again, we wish you, Uncle Trong, and Aunt Vinh good health and happiness. We wish Cousin Vinh excels in grade 3.
Essay number 2:
Ho Chi Minh City, February 1, 2018
Dear beloved grandparents,
First of all, I would like to wish you a happy new year, full of blessings and good health. Did you have a big Tet celebration? Are you and all the uncles and aunts still in good health? Please convey my regards to them!
Recently, my parents have been busy with work and only got a break close to Tet, so they couldn't visit you in the countryside. We miss you, so we're writing this letter. I hope it's not too cold there, and that you're not as cold or numb as in previous years?
It's very cold here, so we have to wear warm clothes to avoid getting sick. But despite the cold, the square sticky rice cakes taste delicious. If only you were here, we could watch you wrap the cakes and listen to your stories, which would bring us immense joy.
Our parents have been very busy, but they've managed to buy us plenty of sweets and snacks. We've all got new clothes, and everyone looks much older now, just like you. We hope to visit you in the countryside soon.
That's all for now. I hope you'll forgive me for ending this letter here. I look forward to seeing you again soon.

The childhood memories soar with kites
Number 1: The essence of innocence
Our childhood was painted with the hues of kites. As the evening sun cast its golden glow over the kite-flying field, adults cheered and jeered as kites took to the sky.
The adult kites, crafted from sturdy bamboo and heavy-duty string, seemed to dwarf those of us children. Yet, as they soared, we felt no envy, only awe.
