On December 10, 2018, in the vibrant city of Hai Phong,
Sending warm greetings to everyone who comes across this letter!
Sending heartfelt regards to my dear father!
I have always believed that each of us has our own heroes within. A hero might possess extraordinary strength like a superhero, or they could be an ordinary person just like everyone else. For me, my hero is nothing extraordinary, possessing no supernatural powers. Instead, he is a humble hero, quietly navigating through the busy, chaotic life. My hero is none other than my father.
I grew up in a family where my mother is a teacher, and my father is a veterinarian. There's nothing extraordinary about us, just like any other family. However, I always believe that both my parents have admirable jobs. If my mother navigates the boat, guiding the vessel of knowledge to cultivate minds, my father is a doctor dedicated to the well-being of other people's beloved pets.
Similar to busy doctors at a hospital caring for each patient, my father is occupied with the well-being of the pets that come for medical check-ups. Hence, his job is a daily hustle. The job may seem incredibly gentle, without any exhaustion. However, not everyone knows the challenges my father faces every day.
Every dog that comes to our house for a check-up is someone else's beloved pet, raised indoors, and accustomed to human scent. But that doesn't make approaching them any easier. They are ready to growl and bite whenever a stranger approaches. Therefore, my father's job is to gradually get acquainted with each one and then examine them. Their nature is like that of a baby, so my father has to be very meticulous and gentle to touch them. Sometimes he jokes while trimming the fur of a fluffy dog, and sometimes he examines an adorable Persian cat with fluffy fur. But there are also moments with aggressive Bulldogs that make my father struggle before he can examine them. My father's job seems harmless, but it's quite risky, folks!
Once, my father was examining and treating a sick cat. The cat growled and turned to bite my father, causing him an injury on his hand. Because of this, it took some time before my father could return to his work, as the bite left a deep wound on his hand.
Although busy caring for beloved dogs, my father never neglects or ignores my sisters. Just a small part of his day, yet he takes the time to chat, inquire about my sisters' worldly affairs. Each of his stories seems to carry joy, small lessons that he wants to impart to us.
A special thing in our house is the abundance of small animals, especially cats and dogs. My father is the one who brings them home. Perhaps what makes me admire my father so much is because he is always generous, rescuing those small, unfortunate creatures. Anytime, any hour, whenever there's a call, he drops everything and rushes to assess their situation. Perhaps the awareness of responsibility and love for animals is the motivation that keeps my father always fulfilling his duties towards these creatures, including rescuing them.
I vividly remember a time when I returned home after school. I saw that my father had finished his work and was preparing to cook because my mother would be home late that day. At that moment, a phone call came in. So, my father quickly changed and hurriedly left the house. Curious, I followed him. It turned out that the call was from a friend of my father's - someone who had discovered newborn kittens abandoned on the roadside. He knew my father is someone who helps animals, so he called him. Seeing the tiny kittens in a cardboard box, my father's eyes seemed to light up, accompanied by a sigh of relief as all four kittens were healthy. He lifted them up, cuddling them like a real mother cat. And my father brought them home, caring for them as carefully as his own newborns. Therefore, sometimes I feel truly envious of my father's pets. Not only that time, but my father has brought home many abandoned small pets. With love and wholehearted care from my father, these animals grow up and become healthier every day. My father's love for them has made them happier. Perhaps that's why I always feel my father is a truly great person, an angel who has saved many lives in this world. At a time when many people are still abusing and abandoning small, pitiable animals outside, my father is the one who brings them new hope for a loving home. That's right, my father continues to work wonders, instilling in us a love for the animals around us.
Therefore, without superpowers, without extraordinary strength, my father is a silent hero. How many lives he has brought in and passed on to them the belief in a new life. He builds in us a broad and forgiving heart, teaching us to love from the smallest creatures beside us. My father is such a hero in my heart and even in the pets in my home.
