1. Concept of a paragraph
- A paragraph is a part of a text.
- Each paragraph usually has a general statement called the topic sentence.
- Other sentences focus on clarifying the general idea through exposition, description, explanation, etc.
- Paragraphs aim to express the theme and meaning of the text.
2. Types of paragraphs in personal narratives
- Paragraphs (or sets of paragraphs) in the opening part introduce the story.
- Paragraphs (or sets of paragraphs) in the body narrate the events.
- Paragraphs (or sets of paragraphs) in the conclusion end the story, leaving an impression on the reader's thoughts and emotions.

b) What similarities and differences are there in the content and tone of the opening and closing paragraphs?
- Similarities: + Describe the Xa Nu forest and focus on the theme of the work. + It is a circular structure - corresponding opening and closing. - Differences: + The opening paragraphs describe the Xa Nu forest specifically. + The closing paragraph describes the Xa Nu forest fading and endless, making the reader contemplate the eternity of the trees, people, and the land.
c) What experience can you draw from Nguyen Ngoc's writing?
- Need to think and plan the opening, closing, and body paragraphs before telling the story. - The opening and closing can repeat some details of the event but must be handled differently, creating a new impression for the reader. - Each paragraph must focus on a specific content, a certain idea...
2. Read the passage about the later life of Sister Dau (page 98, Literature 10 textbook, volume 1) and answer:
a) Is this a passage in an autobiographical text? Why? Which part of the student's story does it belong to?
- It can be considered a passage in an autobiographical text. - Because it develops the passage according to the theme: Sister Dau returns to the village after the August revolution. - The passage belongs to the body of the story as it unfolds Sister Dau's encounter with the revolutionary army and her joining them.
b) Successes and limitations of the writer are shown in which content? Please complete the blank spaces (three dots)?
- Success in storytelling. - Limitations, awkwardness in describing the scene (first blank) and describing Sister Dau's emotions (second blank). - You can continue the two blank parts as follows:

3. Read the excerpt (page 99, Literature 10 textbook, volume 1) and answer:
a) What does the excerpt tell, in which part, of which autobiographical text?
- The excerpt tells the story of Phuong Dinh, a young volunteer detonating mines to open the way for vehicles to the battlefield during the anti-American resistance. - The excerpt belongs to the body of the story because it recounts the main event: Phuong Dinh is disarming the bomb.
b) Is there a mistake in the narrative point of view in the excerpt? Please point out and correct.
- The character Phuong Dinh refers to himself as 'I' to tell the story, but in some places, the transcriber mistakenly writes it as 'Sister Phuong Dinh'. In this way, 'I' is not Phuong Dinh, there is a confusion in the first-person narrative (I) and the third person when called Sister or Phuong Dinh). - Correct as follows: + Change all pronouns 'Sister' and 'Phuong Dinh' to 'I'. + Remove the words 'girl' in the sentence 'A sound with a thorn... because I am narrating my feelings, not some girl.'
c) State the experiences when writing a paragraph in an autobiographical essay.
- Must adhere to the theme and ideas of the text. - Must unify the narrative point of view in the paragraphs.
