Compose an Exercise Applying a Combination of Expressive Methods in Persuasive Essays, short 1
A. ANSWERING QUESTIONS, EXERCISES
1. Exercise 1, Literature 12 Textbook, Volume 1, page 158
a) - In an essay or a paragraph of persuasive writing, it is essential to apply a combination of personal narrative, description, and expression to enhance the effectiveness of expression, making the persuasive essay more compelling and appealing to the reader.
- In addition to primarily persuasive arguments through logical reasoning, there is also support through imagery, stories, and emotions combined in persuasive writing.
b) To ensure that the application of these expressive methods truly enhances the effectiveness of persuasion, attention should be paid to the following:
- The persuasive expression method always plays a leading role, while personal narrative, description, and expression only play a supporting role in conjunction with the persuasive argument of the persuasive essay.
- Therefore, incorporating personal narrative, description, and expression into persuasive essays must be moderate, not overshadowing the persuasive expression method but enhancing the effectiveness of expression for the persuasive essay.
- Incorporating personal narrative, description, and expression into persuasive essays must be harmonious, reasonable, and appropriately placed.
- Writers need to integrate them naturally and seamlessly into the discussion, viewpoints, and argument system of the persuasive essay.

B. PERSONAL ESSAY
1. Please write a short persuasive essay expressing your opinions in the discussion session on the topic 'A Writer I Admire' organized by the Literary Club of the school?
You can refer to the following essay:
There are poets who can never create a line of poetry - I want to say a line worthy of being called poetry. Those people are surely the most pitiful in the world. Why do people pity those who are fed a dream of unfulfilled love, but no one pities those who bear a poetic love in silence to shatter the most precious and grand dream in life: the dream of poetry?
Today, while writing this book, a book that they will see as a painful mockery, Vũ Đình Liên suddenly made me think of those unfortunate souls.
Do I need to say immediately that Vũ Đình Liên is not an unfortunate soul? In the new poetry scene, Vũ Đình Liên is an old figure. Since the advent of the new poetry movement, we have seen Vũ Đình Liên's poems in various publications. Like most poets of that time, he also sang of love. But his two main sources of inspiration were compassion for the wretched and a nostalgic sentiment. He cared for the unfortunate and remembered scenes of the past. There was one time when these two sources of inspiration met and left us a masterpiece: The Vendor. The Vendor came every five years during the cherry blossom season, sitting to write for hire on the street. 'He is the pitiful memorial of a decadent era.' Rarely has a simple poem been so touching. I felt like reading a confession of guilt from all of us young people who gathered to mock them, ridicule their rustic origins, and belittle them. The pathetic scene of the Confucian education system and Confucian scholars. But mocking the rustic should not be done, and praising them is not appropriate either. Most of the remaining Confucian scholars are also pitiable. Without research, without theory, Vũ Đình Liên, with a sympathetic heart, recognized this truth and indirectly gave us a more reasonable attitude towards our own parents. His poem can be seen as a gesture of sacrifice.
Pursuing a literary career and being able to create a poem like that is enough. It means enough to leave a reputation, enough for the people. But for the true poet, it is not enough. I see that Vũ Đình Liên still has many things to say, needs to say but is choked up and unable to say. 'I have never - Vũ Đình Liên's words - felt that I could achieve my poetic ideals. Also, because I do not believe in poetry, I no longer write poetry.' But Vũ Đình Liên has humbled himself too much, we all see. But we have seen in his words a subtle heartache. The pained soul sees that the poetry cannot escape, the words of poetry are like a soul imprisoned in the fleshly prison. Perhaps that's why, in 1937, before leaving the literary world, he sent back a couplet of melancholy poetry:
Our souls have been tired for a long time
How many profound greens in the sky
How many shadows still linger in our hearts
It hurts to think! Since 1935, describing the autumn scene, Vũ Đình Liên wrote:
The wind blows clouds far away
Cold and indifferent, not knowing who to bid farewell!
How Huy Cận could get over Vũ Đình Liên after reading, four years later, a few lines of poetry by Huy Cận:
Oh! Remember the yellow sunshine behind
Is there anyone playing a lonely lute?
Is there anyone bidding farewell in that distant place
As my steps hesitate here too...
Fortunately, Huy Cận's nostalgic verses:
The bamboo edge vibrates, the drum of the tavern
It seems to still echo on the administrative floor,
Dreaming of the swaying moonlight
The ancient soul sends the sound of time, the drum rolls.
You may refer to the following discourse:
There exist poets who never manage to craft a poetic line - I mean a line deserving to be labeled as poetry. Such individuals are undoubtedly the most pitiable in the realm. Why do people sympathize with those ensnared in the illusion of unrequited love, yet no one extends their compassion to those bearing a melancholic poetic love, enduring to shatter the most cherished and significant dream in life: the dream of poetry?
While composing this book today, a book that would be perceived as a poignant mockery, Vũ Đình Liên unexpectedly led my thoughts to those unfortunate souls.
Must I explicitly state that Vũ Đình Liên is not an unfortunate soul? In the realm of modern poetry, Vũ Đình Liên is an elder figure. Since the inception of the modern poetry movement, we've encountered Vũ Đình Liên's verses in various periodicals. Similar to most poets of that era, he also extolled the theme of love. However, his two primary wellsprings of inspiration were compassion for the downtrodden and a sentimental affection for the past. He empathized with the destitute and recollected scenes from days of yore. There was a singular occasion when these two fountains of inspiration converged, bequeathing us a masterpiece: 'The Street Vendor.' The Street Vendor arrived every five years, amidst the cherry blossom season, seated to write for hire by the roadside. 'He embodies the pitiful relic of a bygone era.' Seldom has a modest poem been as poignant. It felt akin to reading a mea culpa from all of us, the youth who congregated to deride them, mock their rural origins, and belittle them. The pathetic tableau of the Confucian education system and Confucian scholars. Nevertheless, ridiculing the rustic should not transpire, and lauding them is equally inappropriate. The majority of the lingering Confucian scholars are also deserving of pity. Without research, bereft of theory, Vũ Đình Liên, armed with a compassionate heart, discerned this verity and indirectly imparted to us a more judicious attitude towards our own progenitors. His poem can be construed as a gesture of sacrifice.
Pursuing a literary vocation and producing a poem of such caliber is adequate. It signifies sufficiency to etch a name, sufficient for the populace. However, for the veritable poet, it falls short. I perceive that Vũ Đình Liên still harbors myriad sentiments to convey, needs to articulate them but is stifled and incapable of doing so. 'I have never - the words of Vũ Đình Liên - entertained the conviction that I could realize my poetic ideals. Also, due to my lack of faith in poetry, I no longer engage in poetic composition.' Nevertheless, Vũ Đình Liên has abased himself excessively, we all discern. Yet, within his words, we discern a subtle heartache. The anguished soul apprehends that poetry cannot elude, poetic words akin to a soul incarcerated within the corporeal prison. Perhaps that is why, in 1937, prior to bidding adieu to the realm of poetry, he dispatched a pair of plaintive verses:
Gentle love verses, four distances apart, not enough to make us forget the silent nostalgic and melancholic heart of Vũ Đình Liên:
Ringing the ancient horn for a thousand years
(Hoài Thanh, Vietnamese Poet)
- Review: The introduction to poet Vũ Đình Liên in Hoài Thanh's Vietnamese Poet, though not lengthy, provides a comprehensive assessment of the author's unique style and contributions, especially his poem 'The Vendor.' The article employs various methods such as personal narrative, expression, and exposition. These methods are seamlessly blended to highlight the central issues that the author of Vietnamese Poet wants to present to readers.
2. Write a persuasive paragraph on the issue of environmental pollution
In developing countries, such as Vietnam, the issue of environmental pollution is becoming increasingly urgent. Every day, the emissions of smoke from low-quality vehicles, combined with the smoke from numerous factories and workshops, have made the air extremely oppressive. How can humans breathe in such a toxic atmosphere?
