Faced with escalating air pollution in Ho Chi Minh City, residents are flocking to buy air purifiers, leading to a remarkable 200% surge in demand.
1. Concerns Spark Rush for Air Purifiers
Facing heightened air pollution in Ho Chi Minh City, many residents are rushing to purchase air purifiers, causing a staggering 200% increase in demand.
Ms. Le Thi Trinh from Thu Duc district revealed she decided to buy an air purifier for her home at a cost of 3 million VND to ensure clean air for her daughter.

With the surge in air pollution, air purifiers on the market are gaining popularity among consumers.
Similarly, Mr. Nguyen Thai, residing in An Khanh apartment (district 2), recently purchased an air purifier from the Shrap brand for his family at a price of 4.99 million VND. According to Mr. Thai, living on the 8th floor of the apartment building exposes them to higher air pollution. Experts warn that higher elevations experience more air pollution due to vehicle emissions, environmental factors, especially fine dust that can lead to lung cancer if inhaled over an extended period.
After a week of use, I feel the indoor air is fresher. The air quality indicators on the device have also improved, and the humidity is well-regulated. In the near future, I will equip each room in the house with one so that the entire family can enjoy a healthier living space,' Mr. Thai said.
Responding to the increasing demand for air purifiers, most electronic stores and appliance supermarkets in Ho Chi Minh City display air purifiers prominently on their main shelves. They also implement programs and offer discounts of up to 30% for each premium air purifier model.
Observations at electronic stores like Mytour, Nguyen Kim, Thien Hoa (district 3), and supermarkets like Cho Lon... show that air purifier brands mainly come from Sharp, Panasonic, Coway, Daikin, etc. The prices range from 2.8 million to 5.99 million VND per unit for budget-friendly models. Some high-end models with additional functions such as humidification, mineral-enriched air, mosquito repellent feature prices ranging from 7.9 million to 38.9 million VND per unit.
According to sales staff, the number of people looking to buy air purifiers has surged in the past two weeks, with sales increasing by 200% compared to the beginning of the year. Some budget-friendly air purifier models priced from 2.5 to 8 million VND are currently in a 'sold out' status.

The air quality in Ho Chi Minh City is currently exceeding permissible standards.
Mr. Ho Van Thanh, the owner of an electronics store on Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street (District 1), revealed that on average, the store sells about 70-80 models of air purifiers daily. The most popular models, priced from 2.5 million to 6 million VND per unit, come with features such as air purification, effectively eliminating dust, impurities, and airborne pollutants like CO, SO2, PM2.5. 'Several budget-friendly models priced from 2.8 to 4.9 million VND per unit were sold out last week,' added Mr. Thanh.
However, according to recommendations from experienced individuals in air purifiers, most genuine models currently only filter PM 10 and PM 2.5 particles. The effectiveness and lifespan of the filter membrane depend on the product type and price. Therefore, consumers should inquire about the expiration date, maintenance intervals, and filter replacement schedule to achieve the highest air purification efficiency when purchasing these items.
