Step 4: Click OK.
From now on, whenever you want to open Chrome in incognito mode, simply use the shortcut you just created.
If you want to open Chrome in normal mode, just delete the shortcut or open the Google Chrome Properties dialog and remove -incognito from the Target box.
Firefox Browser (Mac, Windows)
Setting up Firefox to start in private mode by default is much simpler than in the Chrome browser:
Step 1: Click the gear icon, then select Options.
Step 2: Go to the Privacy tab, under History select Firefox will never remember history from the menu.
Restart Firefox browser to apply the changes.
Safari Browser (Mac)
Setting up Safari to open in private mode is as simple as Firefox browser:
Step 1: Open Safari browser and go to Preferences (or press Command + ,).
Step 2: In the General tab, under Safari opens with, select A new private window from the menu.
Exit Safari browser and reopen it again, now you are browsing in private mode.
Opera Browser (Windows)
Opera browser users can follow similar steps as Chrome browser to set Opera to start in private mode by default:
Step 1: Create a shortcut for Opera on the desktop if not already there.
Step 2: Right-click on the Opera shortcut icon, select Properties.
Step 3: In the Target box, add -private at the end of the text after the last double quotation mark, add a space and then add -private.
Step 4: Click OK.
Browser (Windows 10)
For Edge browser, there is no direct way to always open the browser in private mode, and users will need to manually do so each time they want to use Microsoft Edge in private mode.
Useful Tips for Windows and Mac Users
Windows users can right-click on the browser icon in the Start menu, then select New incognito/private window instead of setting browsers to start in private mode by default. This method can be applied to Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Opera browsers.
Additionally, you can access the New incognito/private window by right-clicking on the browser icon on the Taskbar.
Mac users can right-click on the icon on the dock, then select New incognito/private window.
