(Fatherland) - 'Deadpool 3' will blur the lines between the 'X-Men' franchise from 20th Century Fox and what's been established in the MCU.
Based on new information from Deadline, Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine won't be the only X-Men characters making the leap from the 20th Century Fox film series to Disney/Marvel's MCU when 'Deadpool 3' releases at the end of 2024. This superhero duo will receive support from some familiar faces, at least from previous 'Deadpool' films.

Specifically, actors Monica Baccarin and Stefan Kapicic have both been announced to reprise their roles as Vanessa and Colossus after appearing in the first film in 2016 and its sequel in 2018. The news isn't entirely surprising, especially considering Baccarin's beloved portrayal of Vanessa in the first film, and Kapicic's vocal performance that brought the CGI character Colossus to life in both previous 'Deadpool' films. The return of these characters also indicates that the timeline of the 'Deadpool' films will continue within the MCU, although how this will be explained remains to be seen.
While Vanessa is a mutant from birth in Marvel Comics, first appearing in 'X-Force #19' in 1993, she's portrayed as a regular human with no special abilities in the 'Deadpool' films. On the other hand, Colossus is one of the most famous X-Men characters in history, debuting in 1975. In the films, Colossus is an important character with a serious, sincere demeanor that contrasts with Deadpool's playful, sarcastic nature, always ready to lend a hand to the main character when needed.

With Marvel Studios introducing the concept of the multiverse in the MCU, they can easily handpick any characters or actors they desire from the vast treasure trove of superhero films from other studios. This mirrors how 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' featured three actors—Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield—portraying Peter Parker/Spider-Man in a single film. Similarly, Patrick Stewart seized the opportunity to reprise his role as Charles Xavier once more in 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,' despite this version of Professor X being different from what audiences saw in the Fox films.
Nevertheless, Marvel Studios' utilization of Fox's X-Men character iterations presents an intriguing and captivating prospect for fans. It suggests that Marvel may have intentions to rejuvenate the X-Men franchise at some point in the future. Apart from Monica Baccarin and Stefan Kapicic, it remains uncertain whether actress Brianna Hildebrand will return as Negasonic Teenage Warhead. 'Deadpool 3' might even add more humor if Josh Brolin reprises his role as Cable after embodying Thanos in the two most recent 'Avengers' films, a detail previously hinted at in 'Deadpool 2.'
