As you embark on the journey to O Quy Ho Pass, you will traverse approximately 12km from Sa Pa to Thac Bac, passing through the entrance of Hoang Lien Son National Park, and shortly thereafter, you'll reach the summit of O Quy Ho Pass at an elevation of nearly 2,000m. This peak is also known as the 'Heaven's Gate.'

The altitude of the Hoang Lien Son mountain range creates a distinct climate division at Heaven's Gate. During winter, while Tam Duong remains warm, Sapa experiences bone-chilling winds, all-day fog with visibility limited to around 2m, and mountains shrouded in mist. In severe cold spells, O Quy Ho Pass can be entirely covered in snow.

In summer, while Sapa enjoys a cool and refreshing climate, Tam Duong, influenced by the dry winds from Laos, suffers from scorching heat that parches the land, dries up streams, and turns lush green grasslands into arid landscapes under the blazing sun.

The O Quy Ho Pass was once perilous, with few daring to traverse due to its lengthy route and chilling tales of tigers lurking to prey on passersby. However, today, the road has undergone significant upgrades, attracting a multitude of vehicles and tourists eager to explore.

The road winding through O Quy Ho Pass features a precipitous abyss on one side and towering cliffs on the other, posing a challenge to drivers. The majestic natural scenery of O Quy Ho Pass will undoubtedly leave you in awe, but meticulous preparation for your journey here is strongly advised.
