“Setting foot on the summit of Pha Luong, looking into the distance, we truly feel the vastness and expanse of the land and sky…”.

We wander back to the Moc Chau plateau, where the land is painted golden by wild sunflowers. The legendary Tây Tiến trail still echoes in the air. The Pha Luong peak stands proudly like a paradise in the clouds.
Pha Luong is about 30km from Moc Chau, situated on the border between Vietnam and Laos. Despite its height of nearly 2,000m, it is a challenging mountain, demanding endurance and courage from anyone wanting to conquer it. The journey to the border post, the starting point for the climb, is the real challenge. Moreover, the steep ascent to the summit, different from other northern peaks, makes the climb a 3-4 hour endeavor.
Starting at 6 a.m. at the border post, guided by A Lu, a Mông boy born in 1999. Our first challenge is navigating the terraced fields perched high in the homes of the Mông ethnic people.

Next, the 6km forest trail takes us through a landscape that constantly evolves, showcasing the beauty of nature along the way.
There were moments when we had to bow down, walking amidst bamboo forests intertwined like an archway, romantically resembling a path under the happiness road.
Then we stumbled upon towering maple trees, paths covered with falling golden leaves, or large rocks standing proudly by the roadside.
After a trek of nearly two and a half hours, our group erupted in joy as we set foot on the summit of Pha Luong. Simultaneously, we were fortunate to witness a sea of drifting clouds at that very moment.

Concluding the legendary conquest of Pha Luong, we shared a intimate, warm meal with the soldiers right at the border post.
Bidding farewell to the soldiers, to the local people in this area where we deeply felt the close-knit military-civilian relationship, and the echoes of the historic Westward March.
