With a simple procedure, without using any intermediary software, you can independently create PDF files in Word 2013.
For example, if you have a .docx file you want to convert to PDF using Office 2013:

Step 1: After finishing the Word file you want to convert to PDF, click on File -> Save.

If you have saved the file in .docx format, choose Save As.

Step 2: Name the file and make sure to choose the file type PDF under Word Document.

Step 3: Click on Option to add some options:

Step 4: In the dialog box that appears, choose the page range:
All: All pages in Word are converted to PDF.
Current Page: Only the page containing the mouse pointer is converted to PDF.
Page (s) From: Convert from page x to page y.

Finally, click OK to see the result:
