If you possess a large number of RTF, DOC, TXT, or LIT files and desire to view them on iBook, unfortunately, direct viewing is not possible. You'll need to convert these documents into eBooks for iBook reading.
How to Convert Documents into eBooks for iBook Reading
Before you begin, what you need to do is download and install a free program called Calibre.

Calibre is an excellent conversion tool that allows you to convert purchased eBooks from other providers into EPUB format for viewing on iOS devices as well as eBook Readers. Calibre can convert many file formats into various other formats; however, the program does not support direct conversion from DOC or DOCX to EPUB. So if you're working with DOC or DOCX files, you'll first need to convert these files to formats supported by Calibre, including: LIT, HTML, PRC, RTF, PDB, TXT, or PDF.
To convert DOC files to HTML or RTF format, first open the DOC file in Word and select File =>Save As =>Web Page or Rich Text Format.
After saving the file in the appropriate format, you can now proceed to convert these files to EPUB format.
Step 1: Add your files by clicking the Add Books button located in the top left corner.
Step 2: Once you have added all your files to the Calibre Library, select the files you want to convert to EPUB format and then click the Convert button to start converting the documents into eBooks for iBook reading.
Step 3: Edit metadata. After clicking the Convert button, a popup window will appear on the screen allowing you to edit the metadata.
In this window, you can modify the author's name, add a book cover, customize the layout, and many other options. Once everything is set according to your preferences, and make sure the Output Format is set to EPUB, click OK.
Step 4: After the conversion process is complete, click on the Send to Device button, and Calibre will send the EPUB file to your iOS device as well as copy the file to the iTunes Library.
Step 5: From now on, you can read eBooks directly on your iOS devices (iPad, iPhone, iPod).
