Apart from defrosting or reheating food, microwave ovens also have a lesser-known function: cooking rice. Moreover, rice cooked in a microwave is not only delicious but also tender and flavorful.
Rinse and soak rice in water (for certain types of rice) before cooking
For common rice varieties, simply rinse and place the rice in a bowl. However, for rice types like brown rice, which are usually harder than white rice, it's advisable to soak them before cooking to enhance flavor and make the rice softer.
Add water to the rice bowl and place it in the microwave
Use a ratio of 2 parts water for every 1 part rice (for example, if you have 2 bowls of rice, you'll need 4 cups of water). You can adjust this ratio based on your cooking experience, considering the dryness of the rice, the microwave's power level, and the size and shape of the rice bowl.

Safety Tips
Ensure that the rice container is large enough for the rice to expand or for water to boil. The container should be at least 4 times the volume of rice and water it holds. Additionally, select a microwave-safe container material to prevent breakage or melting during use.
Avoid tightly sealing the container in the microwave as pressure can build up, potentially causing explosions and scattering contents inside the microwave.
Do not leave rice at room temperature for more than 1 hour. Uncooked rice may contain Bacillus cereus spores, a bacteria type that can cause food poisoning. Even after cooking, bacteria may still be present. If rice is left at room temperature, spores will germinate into bacteria. These bacteria will multiply and produce toxins, leading to symptoms like vomiting or diarrhea. Reheating rice will not eliminate these toxins.
