When using Word to compose documents, the default is that headers and footers are identical across all pages within the same document. To create multiple headers and footers within a single Word document, divide the document into different sections. Each section will then have its own style of header and footer.
This article provides guidance on creating multiple headers and footers within the same Word document using Microsoft Word 2010. Similar steps can be followed for Microsoft Word 2007, 2013, while older versions may have slightly different procedures due to interface variations.
Step 1: Enter the content of your document. After entering this content and desiring different header and footer styles for subsequent sections, place the cursor at the end of that content section.
Step 2: Navigate to the Page Layout tab and click on Breaks. You'll encounter 4 options under Section Breaks:
- Next Page: starts a new page.
- Continuous: breaks at the current cursor position.
- Even Page: breaks at an even-numbered page.
- Odd Page: breaks at an odd-numbered page.
For instance, to start a new section immediately after the current cursor position, select Next Page.

Step 3: Your document is now divided into 2 sections. Section 1 contains the content you've entered, while Section 2 will be where you continue entering content. You can divide it into more sections if necessary.
Now, to create headers and footers for each section, double-click on the header area (top of the page) of any page within Section 1. In the Design tab of Header & Footer Tools, check the box for Different First Page and enter the desired content for the header of Section 1.

Step 4: After completing the header content for Section 1, press Next to move to the header of Section 2.

Step 5: Click to deselect the Link to Previous option to ensure that the header of Section 2 is independent of Section 1's header. Then, enter the header content for Section 2.

Afterward, double-click anywhere outside the header to finish. For the footer, follow the same steps as for the header.
This article has guided you through the steps to create multiple different headers and footers within the same Word document. We hope that after reading this article, you can quickly apply it to your own documents. Wish you success!
