Diverging from the Facebook app, Messenger lacks the direct logout option found in other OTT chat applications. Nevertheless, we can still gracefully exit and log out of our Facebook Messenger account on our devices by following the steps outlined in this guide.

1. For iOS Operating System (iPhone, iPad)
Step 1: Open the Facebook app and tap the three horizontal lines icon to open the Settings menu. Here, select Settings & Privacy => Settings.

Step 2: Select the Security and Login option.

Step 3: Information about logged-in devices will be displayed under Where You're Logged In. Click on the three dots corresponding to the device logged into Messenger and choose Log Out to exit the Messenger account.

Step 4: To fully exit Messenger, you need to log out of your Facebook account on the device. Go back to the Customization menu and Log Out of the Messenger account.

Step 5: Click on the Settings gear icon and Remove Account from Phone.

Step 6: Open the Messenger app; a notification prompting the expiration of the login session will appear. Click OK to proceed.

2. Exiting and Logging Out of Messenger on Android OS
Step 1: Open the Facebook app and tap the three horizontal lines to access the Customization menu. Here, select Settings & Privacy => Settings.

Step 2: Choose Security and Login. Then, locate and tap on the name of the device logged into the Messenger device as shown below.

Step 3: Click Log Out to exit your Messenger account from your phone.

Step 4: To fully exit your Messenger account, proceed to Log Out of your Facebook account from the Facebook app.

Step 5: On the Facebook login interface, follow the steps below to remove the account from your device.

Step 6: Open the Messenger app, a notification about the login session expiration will appear. Click Agree to completely exit Messenger.
