Narrating the tale of Son Tinh and Thuy Tinh in my own style
Task Completed:
During my sixth-grade year, we explored many legends and fairy tales. Among them, I favored the tale of Son Tinh and Thuy Tinh.
King Hung the eighteenth had a daughter named Mi Nuong, exceptionally beautiful and graceful. The king cherished her greatly and sought a worthy husband for her. Son Tinh and Thuy Tinh both came to propose simultaneously. Son Tinh hailed from the Tản Viên mountains, adept at controlling the winds and summoning rain. Thuy Tinh possessed similar talents: commanding the winds and rainfall. With both suitors equally skilled, King Hung was undecided. Ultimately, he declared, 'Both suitors please me. Whoever presents the ceremonial gifts first will marry my daughter. The offerings include one hundred bowls of sticky rice, one hundred cakes of square glutinous rice, nine-tusked elephants, nine-spurred chickens, nine reddish-brown horses, each in pairs.'
Early the next morning, Son Tinh arrived with the complete set of ceremonial gifts and successfully brought Mi Nuong home. Thuy Tinh arrived later, realizing he had missed the opportunity, filled with rage. He ordered his army to pursue and attack Son Tinh, intending to snatch Mi Nuong away. Thuy Tinh summoned rain, called upon the wind, causing water to surge violently, flooding fields and homes. Everything submerged beneath the vast expanse of water. Yet, Son Tinh remained composed, calmly relocating hills and mountains, diverting the floodwaters. The two sides clashed for months, but Son Tinh stood firm while Thuy Tinh grew exhausted, eventually retreating with his forces.
Yet Thuy Tinh persisted, never willing to concede. Every year, he used water to combat Son Tinh. But the more he fought, the more he lost. Exhausted from battle, the water deity had to retreat.
