War may have passed long ago, but the pain and losses it left behind remain indelible. Today's youth, sheltered from the horrors of war, may struggle to comprehend its profound impact. To foster understanding, countless stories depicting the juxtaposition of war and peace have been shared. One such tale recounts the selfless sacrifice of a soldier named Van Ngoc Be, whose noble act exchanged peace for our present-day tranquility.
It was a miraculous occurrence when enemy forces attacked our base camp. Yet, amidst the tension, Private Be's unwavering resolve emerged. Despite his grievous injuries, he bravely offered himself as a shield, urging his comrades to retreat while he held the line against the enemy onslaught. His plea, 'I am willing to sacrifice to defeat the enemy. Take my weapons, and if they breach, I will perish with them. Quickly, go!' echoed with heartbreaking sincerity.
Although hesitant, his comrades reluctantly obeyed. Moments later, as the enemy returned, realizing the gravity of the situation, they followed Be's lead, detonating explosives to halt the enemy advance. Van Ngoc Be lay wounded, his body a testament to his unwavering bravery and sacrifice. Alongside his fellow soldiers, he contributed his blood to compose the immortal ode of courage, reclaiming peace for our nation, a sacrifice forever etched in the collective memory of the Vietnamese people.
Listening to Comrade Be's words, hesitation gripped their hearts. Yet, as news of the enemy's return reached them, they realized the perilous truth: to remain meant certain death. Reluctantly, they heeded Be's call, retreating to the modest shelter as bombs rained down. With Be leading the way, they waded through marshes and thickets, pursued by enemy aircraft. And as they vanished from sight, the enemy scouts returned. Hindered by his mangled limbs and drained by loss of blood, Comrade Van Ngoc Be failed to fulfill his final act: detonating the grenades clutched in his hands. He lay sprawled, face pressed against the soil of his beloved homeland, the weight of enemy shrapnel upon his back. Van Ngoc Be, alongside countless other comrades, sacrificed his very being to script an immortal saga of valor, securing peace for the Vietnamese people, a legacy never to be forgotten.
