Crafting an Overview on Expressive Writing on Page 71 in Language Arts 7 Textbook
Exploring: UNDERSTANDING GENERAL EXPRESSIONS IN SHORT (1)
I. Expression needs and literary expression
1.Human expression needs
- Emotions conveyed in each folk verse.
+ The first folk verse expresses the pain of injustice, the search for the fairness of labor.
+ The second folk verse expresses the emotions of happiness, tranquility, and pride.
- People express emotions to seek empathy in joy or sorrow.
- When emotions are suppressed and cannot be spoken, there is a need for literary expression.
- Letters often express emotions.
2.Common characteristics of literary expression
a.
- The two texts express the following content:
+ Section 1: memories of a fellow student in the past.
+ Section 2: memories of the deep love for the homeland invoked from a folk song.
- This content differs from the content of a self-descriptive text in that it expresses emotional feelings.
b. Based on the two texts, I agree that emotional feelings in literary expression are emotions deeply ingrained in humanitarian thoughts.
c. Comments on the method of expressing emotional feelings in the two texts:
- Section 1 expresses directly through language (Oh, beloved Thao!).
- Section 2 uses the method of self-description as a tool to express emotions.
EXERCISE
Lesson 1 (page 73 Literature Grade 7 Volume 1):
- Upon reading and comparing the two passages, it is evident that the second passage is expressive literature.
- Reasoning:
+ The author reveals a fondness for sea hibiscus.
+ Expresses this fondness through subjective imagination: spreading like a happy greeting, looking simple like a red soil tea tree; directly through the words: bright and intense, standing enchanted by the sea hibiscus, the rich red color is precious, joyfully enraptured.
Lesson 2 (page 74 Literature Grade 7 Volume 1):
- The expressive content in the poem 'Rivers, Mountains, Southern Waters' affirms the pride in the nation's independence.
- The expressive content in 'Pho Gia Returns from the Battlefield' depicts the triumphant atmosphere and the enduring desire for lasting peace of the nation.
Lesson 3 (page 74 Literature Grade 7 Volume 1):
- Some expressive essays: The school gate opens (Ly Lan), The farewell of the dolls (Khanh Hoai), My Mother.
Lesson 4 (page 74 Literature Grade 7 Volume 1):
Some collected prose expressing sentiments:
OLD SCHOOL
I stroll up to the front of the school and gaze ahead. Despite the years of separation, the school remains unchanged: the moss-covered tiled roof, the four sturdy walls, a few pots of marigolds beginning to flaunt their colors, and the lonely clumps of grass also starting to bloom. The orchid in front of the yard signals the exam season with a thousand roses proudly displayed on the green grass. An emotion suddenly overwhelms me. Every scene evokes images from my past, as if reliving moments of childhood. I remember everything. What I remember is cherished, and everything fills my heart with an indescribable nostalgia.

COMPOSE LESSON: SEARCH FOR COMMON UNDERSTANDING OF EXPRESSIVE LITERATURE (SHORT 2)
1. Human Expressive Needs
- Article 1: The pain of helplessness, the compassion for small destinies.
- Article 2: The emotions of a girl facing the myriad paths of life.
- People confide their feelings to express, to seek empathy, to share.
- Expressive writing is needed when there are thoughts, emotions, joys, and sorrows to express and share.
2. Common Features of Expressive Literature
a.
- Two expressive passages:
+ (1): Longing through recalling memories.
+ (2): Manifesting deep emotional connection with the homeland.
- Difference from autobiographical and descriptive content: not purely narrative or descriptive, lacking complete content, but clearly expressing emotions and feelings.
b. The opinion is correct. Without emotions, sentiments deeply imbued with humanistic thoughts, the purpose of genuine expression cannot be achieved.
c. Methods of expressing emotions in the two passages: Section (1) openly expresses through language, Section (2) through description. Uses vivid imagery that evokes profound associations.

Reference:
Every time someone passes by shouting, 'Who wants to trade candy,' I feel as if I see my mother sitting on the edge of the porch combing her hair with a yellow wooden comb. Mom's head tilted, her hair cascading down one shoulder, and then mom strokes the comb, grasping the hair, pulling it up to the house's eaves…
Lollipop of childhood… Mom… Will I ever see you comb your hair like that again?
