How to Make Kimbap
Ingredients needed for making kimbap:
- Sticky rice: 300g (opt for fragrant or Japanese rice for a tastier experience);
- Dried seaweed sheets (readily available in supermarkets or local markets);
- Chicken eggs: 2 pieces;
- Leafy greens: 300g;
- Sausage, ham, or meatloaf (choose your favorite type);
- Salt, sugar, vinegar, chili, peppercorns;
- Sesame oil (or substitute with vegetable oil if unavailable).
Steps to Make Korean Kimbap
Step 1: Prepare White Rice
Wash and cook rice as usual. Once cooked and cooled, mix it with sesame oil and a pinch of salt. Then, blend the rice with spices like sugar, vinegar, chili, and pepper to taste.

Step 2: Fry the Egg.
Beat the eggs in a small bowl, add a dash of fish sauce and seasoning. Cook the eggs in a moderately sized pan to ensure thickness, preventing them from breaking in the kimbap. After frying, cut them into long strips.
Step 3: Prepare the Vegetables
Peel and clean the carrots and cucumbers, then slice them into long strips. Blanch the carrots and cabbage for 3-4 minutes until tender. Quickly immerse them in boiling water to cool, preserving their vibrant color and crispiness.

Step 4: Prep Sausage or Ham
Step 5: Kimbap Assembly
Spread a bamboo mat on the cutting board and place a sheet of seaweed on top. Ensure the rough side of the seaweed faces up, creating a strong bond with the rice. Evenly spread the prepared rice over about 2/3 of the sheet, leaving a small gap at the top. Be mindful not to layer the rice too thick, as it may result in oversized kimbap when rolled.

Steps to Make Kimbap
- After evenly spreading the rice, arrange each prepared ingredient on top, including cucumber, carrot, egg, sausage or ham, and don't forget to add a touch of mayonnaise. Then, cover the entire width of the seaweed sheet.
- For delicious and visually appealing kimbap, use your hands to hold the ingredients in place, preventing them from shifting. Slowly roll and adjust to ensure a tight rice roll. After completion, slice the kimbap into sections with a thickness of 2 or 1.5cm.

Rolling Kimbap
Follow the steps precisely, and you'll have a delightful dish just like in a Korean drama. Best of luck to you all!
