Skinny tree (also known as monkey bone tree): The sought-after remedy for cancer
There's a wild plant that often goes unnoticed, but suddenly, it becomes the center of attention and is actively sought after by people across Asia. Some even fly to Malaysia just to meet the person who narrowly escaped death, thanks to its miraculous properties.
Monkey Bone Tree (also known as Unity Tree, Cunning Tree)
Mrs. Vuong Tu Cam, a Chinese ovarian cancer patient in stage 3, faced deteriorating health after 10 months of diagnosis. One day, she received an email mentioning Mr. Liu Lian Hui in Malaysia, who overcame the toughest stage of cancer by consuming unity tree leaves for 13 days. Upon hearing this, Mrs. Vuong immediately bought a plane ticket to Penang, then traveled to Taiping (Malaysia) to meet Mr. Liu with the hope of finding similar luck, although unsure of the reality. Upon meeting Mr. Liu, she not only received enthusiastic guidance on consuming the leaves correctly but also reassurance that she could rest assured, and her illness would certainly improve.
Mrs. Vuong stayed in Malaysia and consumed unity tree leaves continuously for 10 days, then requested an additional bundle to take home and continue for another 5 days. In the second round of chemotherapy, before the CA125 test, her disease index had decreased by 45%, and the tumor of size 4*5cm had disappeared. Before the second chemotherapy session, the doctor asked if her hair was falling out, but Mrs. Vuong stated that her hair did not fall out like other cancer patients undergoing treatment. In the third chemotherapy session, the doctors asserted that it would be intense, her hair would surely fall out, yet after the treatment, her hair miraculously remained intact. Continuing to the fourth chemotherapy session, Mrs. Vuong's CA125 blood test index returned to normal, and the current index dropped to 16.8 (while the normal safety index is below 36).
Doctors noted that Mrs. Vuong's illness progressed remarkably well, following the initial treatment plan of six chemotherapies, but they could stop after the fourth session due to unexpectedly positive results. This outcome was beyond the expectations of both doctors and everyone involved. Mrs. Vuong felt immensely grateful for trusting this unconventional healing method and brought some tree saplings home to cultivate, continuing to consume them for four more weeks to enhance the preventive effect.
Following that event, Chinese media also reported on the multipurpose benefits of the unity tree, such as alleviating joint pain, jaundice, bone pain, menstrual disorders, and kidney issues. Patients can consume unity tree by squeezing its juice or cooking it as a daily soup.
This is solely Mrs. Vuong's personal sharing, and she acknowledges that her healing approach lacks any scientific basis or research. It's merely a personal choice during a critical illness period.
The use of unity tree for cancer treatment is yet to be scientifically confirmed
Apart from Mrs. Vuong's case, many cancer patients in Malaysia currently adopt this natural leaf-based healing method. Mr. Liu stated that there are hundreds of daily calls inquiring about purchasing unity tree leaves. Some patients even share, 'Even if it doesn't cure, it can't harm. We're almost dying anyway, so there's nothing we wouldn't dare to try.'
The cancer-healing properties of the unity tree have prompted patients to create individual blog posts sharing their experiences. Cases proving the potential of unity tree leaves in cancer treatment have garnered significant attention on social media platforms.
On Malaysia's NewLife newspaper dated 25/5/2011, the efficacy of unity tree in curing cancer was highlighted, claiming a success rate of up to 90% with proper usage over 4-6 weeks. However, readers were cautioned that each health condition varies, and consuming unity tree leaves is not a scientifically recognized remedy. Scientists in Thailand, Taiwan, and various other countries are currently researching the effects of this plant but have not yet reached a conclusive outcome.
Unity tree can be found in Vietnam
Unity tree (scientifically known as Clinacanthus nutans, also called cunning tree or monkey bone tree). This small bushy plant can grow up to 3m in height. It has smooth green leaves with short stems. Formerly widespread in many rural areas of Vietnam and Asia, urbanization has made it less common.
Close-up of the unity tree
The unity tree's flowers come in shades of red or pink, cascading at the top; the corolla has two lips, the lower lip has 3 teeth; the yellow-green pollen envelope, elongated fruit about 1.5cm long, short stem, containing 4 seeds. In traditional medicine, the unity tree is considered sweet-tasting, neutral, with the effects of cooling the liver, increasing bile secretion, eliminating stagnation, promoting digestion, relieving pain, and treating pimples around the lips and mouth. Unity tree leaves have a subtle fragrance, can be eaten raw (though challenging) and are mainly used for boiling or making soup.

Currently, many places use unity tree leaves for hot pot accompaniments or to cook with minced meat, shrimp, or crab soup, creating delicious and nutritious dishes.
The above information is for reference only. To determine whether unity tree leaves (cunning tree, monkey bone) truly have cancer-healing capabilities, we must await feedback from professionals. Therefore, individuals should not self-administer without a doctor's guidance. Currently, scientists in Taiwan, Thailand, and several other countries are actively researching the effects of the cunning tree but have not reached a final conclusion.
