Question 3 (page 167 Vietnamese 5 Textbook): Find synonyms for the bolded words in the passage below. In your opinion, why did the author choose the bolded words instead of their synonymous counterparts?
Straw
The straw was tall and cylindrical. On top of the stalk, a clay pot or bamboo tube is placed to prevent water from seeping into the core and wetting the straw.
Straw resembles a doorless tent, yet in childhood, it can open doors anywhere. While playing tag, mischievous kids can duck into the straw stack, using straw as their cover like shutting a door behind them.
Straw is like a giant legless mushroom. It stands from one harvest season to the next. Straw gradually offers itself to the glowing red fire of the kitchen hearth, for the chilly meals of cattle and buffalo.
Yet it still retains the rich flavor and full warmth of the homeland.
Weary from the day's work in the harvest season, or simply for fun, you'll find immense joy leaning against straw. Surely, you'll fall into a deep sleep, for the gentle comfort of straw, for the scent of the fields that await to cradle your slumber.
