Lips, being a delicate part of the body and constantly exposed to the elements, are more prone to dryness compared to other body parts. Thus, they require extra care. You can easily create your own lip gloss using honey, providing nourishment and a beautiful shine to your lips.
Steps
Using Petroleum Jelly
Clean and Sterilize Containers Carefully wash old lip gloss containers with soap and water, then sterilize them with rubbing alcohol. Rinse thoroughly to remove any alcohol taste. If you don't have old containers, you can purchase new ones from beauty supply, drugstores, or dollar stores.
Microwave Petroleum Jelly and Honey Place 3 tablespoons of petroleum jelly and honey in a microwave-safe dish and microwave for 30 seconds.
Transfer to Containers Transfer the mixture to container(s) and let cool on the counter until slightly firm.
Seal and Store Place the lid on the container and store at room temperature, avoiding excessive warmth. Lip gloss should stay fresh for up to 6 months.
Using Beeswax
Melt Beeswax and Carrier Oil Melt 3 teaspoons of grated beeswax and 5 teaspoons carrier oil over low heat using a melting pot or double broiler.
Combine Wax and Oil Stir to combine the melted wax and oil, then remove from heat.
Integrate Honey Add in 1 teaspoon of honey and mix thoroughly to prevent clumping.
Transfer to Container Pour the mixture into a clean container and let it sit for 20 minutes before covering or moving.
Storage Instructions Store at room temperature and use within 6 months of production.
Customizing Base Recipes
Create Scented or Flavored Gloss Enhance your gloss with 6-7 drops of your preferred essential oil such as peppermint, lemon, or orange. For chocolate or cocoa flavor, incorporate cocoa powder into the melted mixture. Adjust the amount to taste and stir well to blend. To achieve a berry flavor, mix in strawberry, raspberry, or blueberry drink crystals or kool-aid with sugar added. Stir thoroughly to combine.
Tinted Gloss Mix in a small amount of lipstick using a coffee stirrer to create a tinted gloss. Apply tinted lip balm with a Q-Tip to avoid staining fingertips.
Enhanced Nourishment Boost the nourishing properties of your balm by adding the contents of two vitamin E capsules. Vitamin E is rich in antioxidants, which can counteract the effects of free radicals, protecting skin cells and preventing dryness.
