Crafting Narratives: Sharing firsthand or participated stories, Short 1
Tell a good deed contributing to the construction of homeland, country (pages 28, 29 Vietnamese 5 textbook, volume 1)
Prompt: Recount a street cleaning activity in your living area.
Student's Work:
My house sits deep within a long alley, about fifty meters long. Every Sunday morning, the neighborhood folks gather for communal cleaning.
Around seven o'clock on Sunday morning, the neighborhood leader rings a long bell. Each family sends out a representative armed with tools such as hoes, shovels, knives, picks, brooms... After receiving assignments from the neighborhood leader, people split into groups and start cleaning. One group trims trees in the communal garden. Another group sweeps and collects trash from the alley. Yet another group clears the drains to ensure rainwater drains quickly and prevents flooding. Everyone works and chats happily. About an hour later, everything is done. The neighborhood leader inspects the work and declares the end. Everyone disperses cheerfully. By devoting just one hour to communal work, the neighborhood folks have made the streets in the area clean and beautiful.
Communal cleaning is a very useful activity. It improves the living environment and promotes a clean, civilized lifestyle for everyone. I enjoy this activity very much, so every week I enthusiastically grab a broom and join in the cleaning.
