Question 3: (page 55 of Textbook Vietnamese Literature 8 Volume 1):
The opinion of researcher Vu Ngoc Phan 'The scene where Sister Dau fights the bully is brilliantly crafted' is an affirmation that has asserted the value of the work “Turn Off the Light”. Firstly, the scene where Sister Dau fights the bully, Ngô Tất Tố has created a thrilling, dramatic story, creating surprise, suspense, and finally relief for the reader. In addition, the excerpt has depicted in detail, deeply the character development. We sympathize and admire a Sister Dau: gentle, loving husband and children, patient, enduring but still has hidden strength, resilience. Conversely, we resent a bully: cruel, arrogant, aggressive. That fight scene is even more distinctive, attractive because of the humorous, satirical, mocking tone towards the hired thugs. In summary, Sister Dau's fight scene has successfully depicted the image of Vietnamese women: gentle but also strong, courageous enough to resist the brutal feudal henchmen, inhumane.
- Linking devices in the above paragraph: Linking words with linking effect
+ “Firstly”: Enumeration
+ “In addition”: Transitional word
