Step 1: In the text content where you want to create Footnotes in Word, place the cursor at the position you want to annotate.
Step 2:
+Word 2003
+ Word 2007: Choose the References tab--> click on the arrow in the top right corner --> A dialog box appears.
+ Word 2010, 2013, and 2016: Select the References tab--> click on the arrow icon as shown in the image below.
Step 3: A dialog box will appear, set the desired options and click Insert to complete.
In which:
- In the Location tab:
+ Bottom of Pages: To appear at the bottom of the page.
- In the Format tab:
+ Number format: Select the citation style as 1, 2, 3.. or a, b, c…(you can customize)
+ Customer mask: Leave blank if you want the citation to be a number, or click Symbol to select a character citation.
+ Start at: Choose the starting citation number
+ Numbering: Includes Continuous (continuous citation from start to finish), Restart at each page (want citation marks to start over on each new page), Restart at each selection (want your citation to be continuous from start to finish of the selected text and start over when you select different text)
Step 4: The cursor will automatically jump to the end of the page.
Step 5: You write the citation settings. The result will be as shown in the image below.
Executing creating endnotes in Word 2010 and 2013 is similar to Word 2007

- In Word 2007, if Footnote is not selected, you can choose Footnote in the Location tab to switch from Endnote to Footnote.
