Excel spreadsheets are powerful tools for numerical calculations. This article assists you in creating tables in Excel in the quickest way possible.
Step 1: After creating the data table to sketch, simply select the data range you want to outline -> go to the Home tab, click the Border icon -> choose All Borders:
The result outlines the data as shown below:
Step 3: Edit the data table content with the title requiring merged cells (skip this step if done during data creation). Here, the column headings include ID, First and Last Name, Score, Total Score for cell merging, for example, merging the Score column:
Step 4: After merging cells, adjust the text content's position to be centered within the cell by selecting the formatted cell -> right-click and choose
Step 5: The formatting dialog appears; select the Alignment tab in the Alignment section, change values of Horizontal, Vertical to Center -> click OK:
The result completes the formatting of the table:
Step 6: As a finishing touch, refine the outer borders of the visually appealing table and differentiate them from the inner borders. Select the table -> right-click and choose Format Cells -> the dialog appears, go to the Border tab, choose the border style for the outer border in the Style section -> select the border color in the Color section -> click Outline -> press OK:
The result is a drawn table customized to your preferences. Additionally, after drawing the table, you can fill colors for each row and column as desired:
If you prefer not to draw a table but use pre-existing formats in Excel, apply it to the selected data range -> go to the Home tab -> Format as Table -> choose the desired table style:
A notification dialog appears, check the My Table has Header option if the table creation content includes headers; otherwise, uncheck if the selected range does not contain headers -> click OK:
The table has been successfully drawn; however, using this method won't allow for Merge Cells if the title contains content to be merged:
