I. Before reading:
Question: Discuss with a friend about the similarities and differences between two boats in the painting below.
- Similarity: Both boats can carry people.
- Difference:
+ Sailboat: Large, equipped with sails to harness the wind, commonly used for transporting people and goods on rivers and large seas.
+ Ferry: Smaller, with a roof, typically used for short journeys on a small section of a river.
II. After reading:
* Suggestions for answering the questions:
1. How does the sailboat appear in the perception of the ferry?
- The sailboat emerges, massive and majestic, its sail soaring high in the wind, gliding through the roaring waves, resembling a giant bird spreading its wings to soar over distant shores.
- The sailboat sails through many places, learning about countless new things that help it grow.
2. How does the ferry perceive itself differently from the sailboat?
- The ferry realizes that its shores are too narrow, unlike the sailboat, which often ventures into new and vast territories.
3. In your opinion, what does the sailboat want to convey to the ferry through the statement: 'Everywhere, there are things for us to learn.'?
- According to me, the sailboat encourages the ferry that with a desire for learning, one can learn anywhere. It's not necessary to go to vast places to discover new things; even in the familiar small shores of the ferry, one can learn a lot by seizing opportunities and observing.
4. How does the sailboat help the ferry realize its value?
- The sailboat mentioned: 'The ferry is admired by everyone for connecting the two shores. Every time the ferry docks, people cheer. Truly, I also want to be like that object.'
> The sailboat highlighted the unique value that only the ferry possesses, 'connecting the two shores,' meaning transporting people across, bridging the pieces of land on both sides. This, though a silent task, contributes significantly to many, making travel, meetings, and trade closer and more accessible.
5. In your opinion, what does the story want to convey? Choose an answer below or share your thoughts.
According to me, the story aims to communicate three things:
- Everywhere offers something new for us to learn.
- Each person has their own valuable task, and every task is worth appreciating.
- Diligent individuals who perform their tasks well will earn respect and admiration.
