Established in May 2006, Cửa Vạn Floating Cultural Hub is a unique initiative within the Halong Bay Ecological Museum project. It represents the first floating cultural hub dedicated to the fishing community in Vietnam.
Cửa Vạn Floating Cultural Hub – an Exceptional Floating Museum in Halong Bay

Located 30km from Bai Chay pier, Cửa Vạn fishing village has long been acknowledged as the capital of fishing villages. With floating boats, fishing vessels, and sincere, down-to-earth people, the village creates a distinctive charm unlike any other coastal community.

Cửa Vạn is also captivating due to its fishermen, who possess a unique culture. They pursue the sea, live their lives on boats and floating rafts, only anchoring to some shore on an island upon death.

Residents of Cửa Vạn are born and raised at sea, accustomed to 'eating waves and speaking with the wind.' They unite to face the fury of the sea and thwart invasion plots, preserving every inch of the homeland's border.

Therefore, this location has been chosen to construct the Floating Cultural Center of Cửa Vạn, a branch of the Halong Bay Ecological Museum, aiming to preserve and uphold the cultural values of the fishing village. It also serves as a typical model for the vast fishing community living on the sea.

The Floating Cultural Center is established with the goal of preserving and introducing cultural aspects, not only traditional but also contemporary, not only typical culture but also daily life. It advocates, promotes, and educates the fishing community and tourists to conserve the environmental landscape.

Simultaneously, it serves as a cultural exchange hub between fishing villages, between the fishing village and tourists. It attracts students, scholars, and researchers, showcasing indigenous cultural forms, especially contributing to job creation and improving the socio-economic life of the people in Cửa Vạn fishing village.

Visiting the Floating Cultural Center of Cửa Vạn today, tourists gain a more comprehensive view of the lives of fishermen in the ancient and modern Halong Bay through over 1,200 documents, images, and artifacts. Exhibits are organized around 5 themes: fishermen's livelihoods; material life of the fishing community; aquatic living with human life; spirituality and mental life; for today and generations to come.

These exhibition themes provide tourists with a broader perspective on the life of Cửa Vạn fishing village's fishermen with unique characteristics that have existed from ancient times to the present, forming a distinctive cultural identity.

In the fresh air of the Cửa Vạn fishing village landscape, tourists can explore the museum, participate in bamboo boat rowing, kayak paddling, and discover the beautiful heritage of Halong Bay. Over ten fishermen's houses have been preserved to help tourists fully experience the life and activities of the fishermen.

Furthermore, here, visitors can enjoy the traditional tunes, graceful dances, duet singing, and sea shanties performed by the children of fishermen in the fishing village... Every day features two fixed performance schedules: from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM and from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM, offering a unique experience for tourists visiting the Halong Bay heritage site.

The Floating Cultural Center of Cửa Vạn is a unique model in preserving and promoting the fishing village culture of Vietnam to both domestic and international tourists. It brings the coastal culture closer to the public, fostering patriotism, love for the golden forests and silver seas.
