As the year comes to a close, urban life seems busier than ever. People are busy with meetings and reports, while others rush to add a little peak to their children's joyous Tet holiday with friends and family. However, perhaps, Da Lat is one of the rare places outside this whirlwind.
Da Lat is most beautiful when waking up after a long night's sleep. The morning in this land is quite cold for those accustomed to year-round warmth of the hot land, and it's easy to understand if suddenly you find the soft mattress and warm blanket irresistibly appealing.
But once here, make an effort to wake up early and witness the moment when the white fog gently creeps to your doorstep, making way for the sunbeams to filter through the leaves. The purity and freshness of the land seem to illuminate to the depths of the soul, the essence of mortal beings.
Da Lat offers serenity from still-warm, aromatic cups of coffee, fragrant in every corner of the street. Here, there's no shortage of beautiful or delicious coffee shops, but to visit Da Lat without experiencing Tung's would be a wasted opportunity. It would be an understatement to say Tung's is merely a place for coffee. Tung's holds much more than that.
This is where the legendary meeting between Trinh Cong Son, the famous musician, and Khanh Ly, the singer, took place. It's also where the shadows of many generations of artists from over half a century ago linger, such as Tu Cong Phung and Bui Giang. At Tung's, one unconsciously feels the brown hue of nostalgia, the fragrance of memories, and the lingering taste of recollection. Tung's isn't spacious, so acquaintances or strangers alike become closer.
Da Lat dreams amidst wildflowers growing by the roadside. Don't ask which part of Da Lat is the most beautiful, as no one dares to give a satisfactory answer. This land is gentle and mild, yet it still wears a rugged, untouched look, urging people to explore. When in Da Lat, don't rush to visit all the tourist spots people often talk about.
Sit down, lean against an aged pine tree, and listen to the rustling of the wind, inhaling the scent of pine resin filling your lungs. Da Lat isn't only romantic because of its architecture reminiscent of a miniature Paris, or majestic with its cascading waterfalls. Da Lat, in the eyes of dreamers, is beautiful because of the wildflowers lining the streets. Just open your heart, immerse yourself in the breath and rhythm of Da Lat's life, and you'll find yourself never lost or lonely on this land of whispering pines.
