This affirmation came at the 44th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Energy Conference held in Washington recently. In the assessments of clean city criteria, Đà Nẵng is recognized as one of the 20 cities in the world with the lowest carbon content in emissions.
With this recognition, in the coming period, Đà Nẵng will receive a $600,000 grant from the World Bank to invest in research projects, assess efforts to improve the environment.
Chairman of Đà Nẵng People's Committee – Văn Hữu Chiến affirmed that Đà Nẵng will strive for a green, clean, beautiful city, a city that meets the environmental standards.
Mr. Văn Hữu Chiến stated that to achieve this recognition, the Đà Nẵng authorities have implemented a comprehensive range of urban beautification projects over the past decades, greenery projects, and have submitted 4 exemplary projects to limit carbon emissions into the environment including: electric bike usage project, subway project, greenhouse gas emission reduction, and use of new energy, building a rapid bus system in June 2012.
These projects, currently being presented to the government and relevant authorities for approval, will be systematically implemented in the coming years, Mr. Chiến stated.
In the report submitted to the 44th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Energy Conference, based on surveys and investigations, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Đà Nẵng has implemented various coordinated measures, reducing 12,000 tons of carbon emissions into the environment through energy-saving projects.
The action plan to transform Đà Nẵng into a green, clean, and environmentally friendly city began in the 2016-2020 period with specific strategies and targets such as 100% of industrial and domestic wastewater being treated; 70% of solid waste being recycled; 25% of water being reused. Đà Nẵng aims to complete the construction of the “Environmental City Project by 2020”.
This recognition will serve as the foundation for Đà Nẵng to strive for the criteria of a civilized, environmentally friendly city and to be a livable city in the world in the near future.
