Đại Nội – Must-Visit Check-In Spot in Huế
The Imperial City of Huế stands as the citadel in the ancient capital of Huế, serving as the seat of power for the Nguyễn dynasty for 143 years from 1802 to 1945.

Đại Nội stands as a colossal construction, the grandest in modern Vietnamese history. Involving tens of thousands in its construction, with millions of cubic meters of earth and stone moved, its immense scope of work including excavation, river diversion, resettlement, tomb relocations, and fortifications spanned 30 years under two royal reigns.

Đại Nội comprises the Imperial Citadel and the Forbidden Purple City. The Imperial Citadel features four gates on each side, with the main southern gate known as Ngọ Môn. Inside the Imperial Citadel lies the Thái Hoà Palace, the heart of royal governance, and the precincts of ancestral shrines. Meanwhile, the Forbidden Purple City served as the royal household's living and dining quarters.

Currently, Huế's Imperial City is one of the sites within the Huế Citadel Complex recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage.

The admission fee to visit Đại Nội is 120,000 Vietnamese dong for Vietnamese visitors and 150,000 Vietnamese dong for foreigners. It takes approximately 2 to 4 hours to explore all of Đại Nội. The area is vast and lacks shade, so be sure to bring an umbrella and water for a complete visit.
