As Tet draws near and spring returns, every household in Vietnam adorns their homes with colorful flowers. Đằng Hải Flower Village has been adorning the port city of Hai Phong for nearly a century.
Đằng Hải Flower Village – An ancient floral community in the port city of Hai Phong
When mentioning the long-standing famous flower villages in Hai Phong, one cannot overlook Đằng Hải Flower Village, located in Hai An district, approximately 6 km from the city center. This traditional flower-growing village has thrived for centuries, possessing a unique charm unlike any other place.

Since the 1960s – 1970s, locals here began cultivating flowers for special occasions such as Tet, festivals, and commemorations. Common flowers during that time included chrysanthemums, marigolds, saffron, periwinkles, and daisies.

The practice of flower cultivation through many generations has produced experienced farmers in the profession. This has led to the creation of premium flower species, becoming the hallmark of Đằng Hải Flower Village

Moreover, there are white roses (used for medicinal purposes, steeped in tea), saffron, magic chrysanthemums (also known as Shasta daisies), golden and white wine chrysanthemums (used for offerings on the 1st and 15th of the lunar month, also dried for making famous chrysanthemum tea in the ancient streets near the opera house), golden chrysanthemums (mainly large-headed chrysanthemums), pearl grass...

Traditional flower varieties have been cultivated and distributed to places like Hoanh Bo (Quang Ninh), Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Hai Duong, Hanoi, Thai Nguyen since 1983. Nowadays, the village cultivates many new flower varieties: American roses, French roses, Dutch roses, French periwinkles, Dalat periwinkle flowers, Thai coins, Dutch chrysanthemums, Japanese chrysanthemums, Indonesian chrysanthemums, Dalat lilies, orchids... and various ornamental plants.

Currently, due to rapid urbanization, flower cultivation has been somewhat affected. Previously, 70% of residents in Đằng Hải ward cultivated flowers on a total area of 150 hectares, but the flower cultivation area has been shrinking over time. Until now, about 30% of households cultivate flowers on a total area of nearly 30 hectares.

Tourists visiting Đằng Hải Flower Village at night can admire the shimmering flower fields. The people of Đằng Hải always sleep alongside flowers, nurturing the flower beds with the heart of farmers. Each flower handed to consumers carries a lot of effort and emotions from the growers.

Along the street through Lung Bac Pass and various lanes in the flower village, flowers are everywhere. Visitors to the flower market are greatly impressed by the overwhelming floral scents, delighted by the vibrant colors.

At Đằng Hải Flower Market, visitors can find everything related to flowers, from simple to expensive flower varieties, from leaves, pins, sequins, ribbons, wrapping paper, glass boxes... to various flower species or fertilizers for flowers.

As Tet approaches, people in Hai Phong stroll through Đằng Hải Flower Village to choose some beautiful flowers to display in their homes, embracing the joyful atmosphere of spring. Moreover, visiting the flower market is also a refined pleasure as one admires the many colorful flowers, uplifting everyone's spirits in preparation for a meaningful Tet celebration.
