The anime follows the lives of Lycoris Café's staff, where customers are treated like gods, operating under the motto: 'Whatever you order, we'll serve it right to you.' With this business model, the staff is always ready to assist everyone, accepting all orders on demand. They not only serve aromatic coffee and enticing desserts but also offer a variety of quirky services, from childcare to love advice and business negotiations... if needed!
The staff members themselves have equally peculiar personalities and destinies. The spotlight of the show falls on characters Chisato and Takina. Both girls are undercover agents currently working for a secret crime-fighting organization in Tokyo. The duo possesses contrasting personalities: Chisato stands out with her blonde hair and radiant smile, living carefree and cherishing freedom, while Takina with her brown hair is reserved, mysterious, and leads a somewhat enigmatic and unpredictable life.
Chisato and Takina's daytime job is not complicated enough; they also have to carry out numerous daunting tasks as requested by the organization whenever night falls. Shedding their waiter uniforms, they track down traces of zombies, even battling giant monsters to bring peace to the city. Alongside thrilling action scenes, the 'more than friends, less than lovers' relationship between Chisato and Takina also creates light-hearted, engaging situations, promising to captivate audiences.
Accompanying Chisato and Takina in the café are Mizuki - an older sister over 30 but still searching for love, always longing to find her other half in life. Then there's the lazy young girl Kurumi, who desires a salary but dislikes working. Leading the group is manager Mika – a tough-skinned, controlling man, tasked with managing an all-female staff. Together, they create a unique and eccentric café, unlike anywhere else in the world.
Renowned production team ensures quality
One could view Unstable Café as a perfect blend of Cardcaptor Sakura and Totally Spies! – two iconic animated series that have enthralled countless fans. Each episode continuously intertwines humor, action, and character development. Following Chisato and Takina's journey, audiences will have entertaining moments while also learning meaningful life lessons and insights.
Unstable Café is crafted by A-1 Pictures, a studio renowned for creating numerous beloved works such as Your Lie in April (2014-2015), Erased (2016), and The Seven Deadly Sins (2014-2021)… Not to mention, this is the debut project of director Shingo Adachi, who has over 15 years of experience designing characters for various renowned anime projects.
Previously, he was known as the animation director for two famous anime series, Sword Art Online (2012) and Working!!! (2015). Both showcase Adachi's distinctive style with captivating visuals and well-crafted scripts, brimming with laughter.
To ensure the highest quality for the anime, A-1 Pictures spared no expense in inviting seasoned veterans to join the production team. Asaura, the author of the Ben-To series, crafted the storyline, while Kimika Onai, who previously designed costumes for the famous girl groups Nogizaka46 and Sakurazaka46, handled character costume design. Additionally, Imigimuru, the creator of This Art Club Has a Problem!, took on character design duties. Chika Anzai voices Chisato, with Shion Wakayama voicing Takina.
Overall, Unstable Café is a humorous, captivating anime, containing all the ingredients needed to become a cult classic. Producers hope that the first season of the series will be a resounding success, allowing for continued investment in future seasons.
