Joker: Folie à Deux wraps filming process and is scheduled to premiere on October 4th, 2024.
Joker stands as one of DC Films' most successful endeavors in 2019 and the superhero film genre at large. Under the new era of James Gunn and Peter Safran, Joker continues its development in an Elseworlds project - encompassing all films outside the DCU. Recently, the sequel to Joker, officially titled Joker: Folie à Deux, has concluded filming after several months of production.
The wrap announcement was made by director Todd Phillips via his personal Instagram, expressing gratitude to the lead duo, Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, along with the entire cast and crew for their outstanding work in the filmmaking process.
'And that's a wrap on filming,' Phillips wrote, 'Big thanks to this duo (and the entire cast) and the world's greatest production crew. Now, it's time to 'go into the cave' (post-production room) to edit and fine-tune the film.'
Joker: Folie à Deux (roughly translated as Joker: Mad with a Pair) will continue to delve into the life of Arthur Fleck following the events of its 2019 predecessor. With Lady Gaga stepping into the role of Harley Quinn, this film will adopt a musical theater style, a relatively novel approach in the superhero genre. This fresh perspective will simultaneously breathe new life into the classic 'mad love' story between Joker and Harley Quinn.
Following the chaos in Joker, Arthur finds himself confined to Arkham Asylum. In the original storyline, this is where he encounters psychiatrist Harleen Frances Quinzel. However, instead of treating Arthur's psychological issues, Harleen inadvertently becomes entangled in a whirlwind romance with this dangerous yet pitiful criminal, giving rise to one of the most iconic couples in DC comics and superhero comics in general.
Alongside Joaquin Phoenix, Zazie Beetz will also reprise her role as Sophie Dumond. Additionally, Joker: Folie à Deux features appearances from talents such as Harry Lawtey, Jacob Lofland, Brendan Gleeson, and Catherine Keener. The film is scheduled to premiere on October 4th, 2024.
