II. Sample Essay: Discourse on Student Etiquette
In every social relationship, etiquette holds immense significance. It serves as a benchmark through which one can assess the intellectual level of individuals and even of a nation. Hence, the ancients often said:
'Words cost nothing
Choose words to speak to each other's hearts'
In the educational environment, for students to develop comprehensively, besides intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and vocational education, moral education plays an extremely important role. Morality, behavior, are measures to evaluate human character. However, the current student etiquette is a pressing issue that needs attention.
In reality, schools are where students have the opportunity to affirm themselves, enjoying comprehensive education and favorable conditions, students not only enrich their intellect but also cultivate and develop their personalities. Those students who are always role models, respectful to teachers, obedient, and diligent in their studies are always the pride of families and schools. In work, these students always show themselves to be responsible, diligent in seeking knowledge, brave in asking questions about difficulties, seeking advice from experienced people, thereby improving the teacher-student relationship day by day. Many students sympathize with the difficulties of their teachers, asking for help, sharing heartwarming stories. With friends, they also have very appropriate and admirable behaviors, helping each other in study, solidarity to build a strong collective, supporting families in difficulty. Some students do not hesitate to carry their friends to school in remote mountainous areas, all of which are extremely good and meaningful humane actions. In speech and behavior, they are always appropriate, polite in greetings, respecting elders, contributing to building a healthy and safe school etiquette culture.
However, on the other hand, we cannot help but be concerned about the uncultured, uneducated behaviors of a part of today's students. Many young people show disrespect, lack of awareness, offend the teachers who stand on the podium every day to convey knowledge to them. When meeting teachers, they ignore or deliberately pretend not to know, many of them are also defiant, arguing, even using harsh words with teachers. Strict teachers are called grumpy, difficult, and disliked, but who knows deeply that it is all a vast love wanting the students to be better people. Articles about student A hitting a teacher and student B insulting a teacher in front of the school gate are still written daily, showing an alarming level of morality among today's students. Openly swearing in front of teachers, tearing up exams, speaking rudely, lacking courtesy when entering and leaving during class without permission, deliberately offending the dignity of teachers are common occurrences in schools.
Within families, some students show indifference towards their parents, indulging in electronics while neglecting studies, lacking respect for grandparents and relatives. Some even resort to stealing money from their parents to satisfy personal desires, neglecting academics, causing distress to their parents. With friends, they use vulgar language as a means of asserting themselves, some even mock the parents of their peers. A distressing trend is the occurrence of fights in schools, where minor disputes escalate into physical altercations, causing both mental and physical harm to their peers. Many videos circulating on social media depict students harassing, fighting, and even stripping and molesting their peers, highlighting a severe decline in student ethics. Another group utilizes platforms like Facebook, Zalo, etc., to slander, quarrel, and engage in tragic actions. Some students exhibit signs of criminal behavior while still in school.
So, what causes students to become increasingly disorderly, indifferent, and disrespectful? Is it solely the fault of the education system? I believe schools bear a significant responsibility, as do families, society, and each student themselves. Lack of attention from families and schools, lax supervision, and societal disorder remain pressing issues contributing to social ills, making it difficult to steer children away from misconduct. Therefore, we need close collaboration to instill ethics and values in students, with adults serving as moral role models and educators setting examples. Building a friendly, cooperative learning environment where students can unleash their potential and nurture their compassionate hearts is crucial. Each student must truly understand themselves, live by their principles, avoid societal vices, strive for academic excellence, and respect their teachers and peers. Living honestly in both academics and personal life, being humble and diligent, continuously striving for self-improvement every day.
Uncle Ho once said, 'Having talent without virtue renders one useless. Having virtue without talent makes everything difficult.' Therefore, we, the future generations, the young shoots of our nation, must strive to build a noble school culture, shining with the character and lifestyle of the great President Ho Chi Minh.
