1. Lunar New Year 2016 - Choosing Between LG 2015 and Waiting for LG 2016
Continuing the Lunar New Year TV theme, this article revisits the information we know about LG's 2016 TV lineup. It aims to help you weigh the decision of either grabbing a discounted 2015 LG TV during the festive season or waiting for the official release of the 2016 models to experience the latest technologies.
Things to Know About LG 2016 TVs
Unlike Sony, LG recently only unveiled 4K TVs (UHD, Super UHD, and OLED), with no information yet about FullHD TV models. This year, LG's LED TVs will start with the label UH (UH950, UH850, etc.) to differentiate from UF (UF950, UF850, etc.) from the previous year. The 2016 OLED TVs will have two models, E6 and G6, belonging to the premium Signature collection. There is no information yet about mainstream OLED models replacing the EG and EC series available in Vietnam.

LG G6 OLED TV at CES 2016
At the recent CES, LG stood out as the most impressive TV brand with the G6 model, part of the Signature collection featuring high-end home devices in the IoT ecosystem. Using OLED technology, the South Korean electronics giant announced that the G6 can achieve a maximum brightness of 1000 nits and a light color depth of 0.0005 nit. Additionally, its impressive thinness of about 2.5 cm and modern, glossy design make it the focal point of attention. Both the LG G6 and the lower-priced E6 model meet the ULTRA HD Premium standard certified by the UHD Alliance, meeting strict standards for resolution, extended contrast range, optimal contrast, and many other evaluation criteria. LG to Integrate HDR for Affordable 4K LED TVs
This year, LG will continue to introduce various 4K LED TV models in 2016. Similar to its competitors, the South Korean electronics company is incorporating HDR technology. What sets LG apart from its competitors is that not only the expensive high-end models but even the mainstream 4K TVs from LG also support HDR content playback. If LG maintains TV prices like last year, it's highly likely that for around 12-13 million VND, you can own a TV with HDR support from the UH670 series. In contrast, Sony only integrates HDR features from the X8500D series upwards, with prices almost certainly not below 30 million VND. Currently, there is no information about Samsung's mainstream 4K TV models, so LG promises to be the top choice if you want to experience affordable HDR.

WebOS 3.0 will bring many new features to LG Smart TVs
Regarding Smart features, LG's 2016 TV models will come with the integrated WebOS 3.0 platform, offering the following highlighted features:
- Upgrade the remote with more buttons for easier control of other devices like set-top boxes.
- Magic Mobile Connection allows mobile device connectivity to the TV through the 'LG TV Plus App'.
- Channel Plus is an app that aggregates TV channels, including various paid content streaming services.
- Integrated Xumo service enables free content viewing from publishers such as Bloomberg, TIME Inc., Conde Nast Entertainment, The Wall Street Journal, BuzzFeed, PopSugar, Mode Media,...
- Channel Advisor analyzes user habits, providing schedules and information about frequently watched programs.
- Multi-view allows you to watch 2 contents simultaneously, like 2 TV channels or 1 TV channel and 1 Blu-ray movie.
- Music Play app supports playing music through the TV speaker even when the screen is off.
- My Channel and Live Menu have been enhanced with additional features to make them more useful for viewers.
- IoTV app allows control of home appliances from LG and other manufacturers that support LG's IoTV ecosystem.
- Magic Zoom enables you to zoom in on presentation content.
LG's 2016 TV models are expected to be available in spring, approximately from April to June this year.
Should you buy a LG TV 2015 during Tet or wait for LG 2016 TV?
The current EG and EC models from LG are still a reasonable investment if you want to experience the image quality that OLED technology brings. Considering the introduction of the new high-end OLED TV models in the Vietnamese market in December, it may take a while for LG to announce the 2016 version of this duo. The E6 and G6 models introduced at CES 2016 belong to the ultra-premium segment with a starting price of up to 5000 euros (about 120 million VND), so they are not TVs for everyone. It's also worth noting that only the EG965 series will receive HDR feature updates, while the other OLED TV series (EG910, EG920, EC930) will not.

It's still unclear whether LG will update HDR features for its 2015 4K LED TVs or not.
If you're eager to experience HDR capabilities, it's advisable to wait for the 2016 LG models. Currently, LG has no plans to update this feature for the 2015 4K LED TVs. The South Korean electronics company, especially, stated that they will integrate HDR even into budget-friendly series, making the 2016 4K LED TVs more appealing than the existing models in the market. As for FullHD TVs, since there is no information available, the 2015 series remains a good choice if it fits your budget.
