Cassie Lang, the daughter of the beloved Ant-Man, Scott Lang, is set to officially become a superhero through the epic Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is undergoing a significant transition, gradually replacing the old generation of superheroes with fresher, younger faces. And Ant-Man is no exception.
Although the Ant-Man will continue his journey in the MCU for at least one more cinematic project, Marvel Studios is already preparing a replacement for this superhero in the future. Meet Cassandra “Cassie” Lang, Scott Lang's daughter, who is also one of the central characters of the blockbuster Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania, set to premiere on February 17.

The trailers released for Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania reveal that the 'Ant Family,' including Scott, Cassie, Hope Van Dyne, Hank Pym, and Janet van Dyne, inadvertently get sucked into the quantum realm and temporarily unable to return to reality. Here, they must face various significant threats, including Kang the Conqueror, the main antagonist in the Multiverse Saga of the MCU.
As mentioned earlier, Cassie Lang will no longer be a supporting character as in previous Ant-Man projects. In fact, Scott's daughter herself has devised a satellite device capable of transmitting signals to the quantum world. Additionally, besides Ant-Man and Wasp, Cassie will also have her own superhero costume in the upcoming blockbuster. Based on the design of this outfit, it's evident that she will become the Stature of the MCU in the near future.
Unraveling Cassie Lang's Transformation into Stature in the Original Comic Series

Although first introduced in Marvel comics back in 1979, it wasn't until the storyline Young Avengers #6 in 2005 that Cassie Lang officially became the superhero Stature. Following the demise of Ant-Man/Scott Lang, Cassie decided to flee and seek to join the Avengers team to inherit the responsibilities and role left by her father.
Cassie, alongside Kate Bishop, headed to the Avengers Mansion to join the ranks of the Young Avengers. However, an unexpected incident occurred, causing Cassie to continuously uncontrollably enlarge her body. Later, Scott Lang's daughter admitted to secretly using Pym Particles for several years.
Shortly after, Cassie had the opportunity to prove her abilities in real combat when the villain Kang the Conqueror attacked Avengers Mansion. It was also the moment she decided to adopt the alias Stature for her superhero career. Although in the comics, Cassie has died and been resurrected several times, even operating under different aliases (most notably Stinger), Stature remains the identity associated with her as well as the Young Avengers team, known to many readers.
The Power of Stature

The powers of Scott Lang/Ant-Man are relatively straightforward, primarily due to a special suit that allows him to shrink or enlarge his body. Wasp also possesses similar abilities, coupled with the ability to fly thanks to wings on her back. All these powers stem from Pym Particles, implying that Stature can also perform similar skills as her predecessors, with just one key difference!
In the original storyline, Cassie possesses the ability to alter her body size without the need for a special suit. The underlying cause behind this phenomenon is her capability to emit heart radiation when in controlled contact with Pym Particles. Cassie has clandestinely executed this for numerous years. Despite gaining certain advantages, it also occasions moments where she struggles to control her powers and autonomously changes her size in an uncontrolled manner.
The Role of Cassie Lang in Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania

As previously mentioned, Cassie Lang will assume a significantly more substantial role in Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania compared to the preceding two Ant-Man films, where she merely served as a supporting character and often acted as the motivation for Scott to fulfill his superhero tasks.
Cassie Lang also made a cameo appearance in Avengers: Endgame during a fleeting segment. She was fortunate enough to survive Thanos' snap and had to endure five years of grief following her father's mysterious disappearance. Some sources suggest that the forthcoming blockbuster will revolve around Cassie's bond with Scott, although that's just the tip of the iceberg.
Marvel Studios has opted for Kathryn Newton to replace Emma Fuhrmann for the role of Cassie Lang in Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania. This casting change indicates Marvel's strategic planning for more projects involving the daughter of Ant-Man. In the upcoming blockbuster, Cassie will finally emerge as a superhero, standing shoulder to shoulder with her father to combat the villain Kang and seek an escape from the quantum realm. The initial trailer also reveals Cassie as the one transmitting signals to the quantum realm, inadvertently drawing the entire Ant Family into it.
Kathryn Newton's role in Quantumania is bound to be emotionally charged, encompassing intense struggles during her transformation into Stature, alongside feelings of guilt for ensnaring individuals in the quantum realm. More importantly, this film presents an opportunity for Cassie Lang to reconnect with her long-lost father.
The Future of Cassie Lang in the MCU

As previously mentioned, Cassie is one of the key members of the Young Avengers team. Therefore, it's highly likely that audiences will encounter this character again in the future of the MCU. Since Phase 4 officially began, Marvel Studios has openly expressed its intention to bring the Young Avengers to the big screen, with notable names like Kate Bishop (Hawkeye), Eli Bradley (Patriot), Kid Loki, America Chavez, and Riri Williams (Ironheart).
Additionally, following the events in Quantumania, Cassie will also be the only member of the Young Avengers who has experience facing Kang the Conqueror - a crucial aspect throughout the Multiverse Saga of the MCU. Moreover, she is close friends with Kate Bishop in the comics and is also the potential leader of the cinematic version of the Young Avengers.

Lastly, in the original storyline, Stature was also the girlfriend of Iron Lad, a teenage variant of Kang, who also founded the Young Avengers. This could be one of the storylines Marvel Studios will explore in the future, especially as the various variants of Kang are set to appear scattered throughout other film and television works, leading to the two biggest events: The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars.
The fate of Scott Lang in Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania remains a major question mark. The trailers seem to be attempting to convince audiences that Ant-Man will meet his demise in the process of preventing Kang from escaping the quantum realm. Following the comic book storyline, Ant-Man's departure might serve as a catalyst for Cassie to realize her own superhero destiny, officially becoming Stature of the MCU.
