With this default feature, your browser automatically suggests websites as you type in the address bar. While this can be convenient, there are times when it becomes inconvenient, especially if you share a computer and want to maintain privacy. In such cases, it's a good idea to disable this function. Follow the steps below to learn how.
GUIDE TO DELETE AUTO-SUGGESTED URLs ON FIREFOX, CHROME, IE
For Chrome
Step 1: Navigate to Customize and select Settings.
Scroll down to the bottom and choose Show advanced settings...
Step 2: In the Privacy section, uncheck the option “Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLs typed in the address bar.”
Then turn it off and start browsing as usual.
For Firefox
Step 1: Type in the address bar “about:config” and press Enter.
Click on the I’ll be careful, I Promise! button.
Step 2: Type in the search bar “browser.urlbar.maxRichResults”.
Double-click, delete the value, and enter the number 0. Then choose OK.
Step 3: In Firefox, select Options.
Choose Privacy, Click on clear your recent history.
Select the time range you want to clear in Time range to clear, then click Clean Now.
Wait for the cleanup to finish and then restart.
For IE
Step 1: Go to tool, select Internet Options.
Step 2: Go to the Content tab. In the AutoComplete section, select Setting.
When the new dialog appears, uncheck the Suggesting URLs box. Click Ok to finish.
Delete Prediction Results on Browsers
Please note that the browsers you've used before will retain suggestions for future predictions as you browse. This function cannot be turned off.
To clear these prediction results while browsing, press the down arrow and use the key combinations
- Shift + Delete on PC.
- Shift + Fn + Delete on Mac.
- Alt + Shift + Backspace for ChromeBook.
