Ingredients for making fried bánh bao
For the filling:

Ground pork: 150g
Turnip: 100g
Quail eggs: 10 eggs
Mushrooms, shallots, glass noodles
For the dough:

All-purpose flour: 200g
Baking powder: 10g
Chicken egg: 1 egg
Sugar, salt
Fresh milk or water: 150 ml
How to make the filling for fried bánh bao:
Step 1: Peel and dice the turnip, then rinse and squeeze out excess water using a cloth bag. Boil and peel the quail eggs.

Step 2: Peel and finely chop the shallots, then fry them in golden lard. Soak the glass noodles and mushrooms in warm water for a while until soft, then rinse and finely slice. Mix all the prepared ingredients including ground beef, glass noodles, mushrooms, turnip, with 1 teaspoon of sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of bouillon powder, 1/2 teaspoon of MSG, oyster sauce, sesame oil, and a little pepper. You can add a bit of ground pepper to enhance the flavor of the filling.

Then add half a teaspoon of cornstarch and continue mixing. Cover the bowl with the filling and refrigerate for about 20-30 minutes.

How to make the dough for fried bánh bao:
Step 1: Mix all-purpose flour, baking powder, sugar, and a pinch of salt in a large bowl, then add water or milk to make a smooth mixture. Next, add the egg yolk and beat until the mixture is smooth and sticky, not sticking to your hands when pressed.

Step 2: Place the dough on a large surface, roll it into a long strip, then divide it into small pieces of about 20-25g each. Cover the dough and let it rest for about 15-20 minutes.

Step 3: Take the prepared filling, divide the meat into small portions and form them into balls of dough size. Then place a quail egg in the center of each filling and wrap it into a round shape.

Step 4: Take the rested dough, roll out the previously divided dough pieces thinly, leaving the center thicker than the edges. Then place the filling in the center and carefully wrap it tightly.
Wrap and crimp the edges of the buns neatly to ensure a beautiful appearance and to seal the filling completely, preventing it from leaking out when frying.

Step 5: Use a deep fryer or deep skillet, pour in enough cooking oil to submerge the buns. Heat the oil until it is very hot, to check if the oil is hot enough, you can put a little bit of dough into it; if the dough floats up immediately, reduce the heat.
Reduce the heat and then place the buns into the oil, fry and roll them until they are evenly golden brown on both sides. Have some paper towels ready to absorb excess oil; when the buns are cooked, remove them from the oil, and the paper towels will help soak up any excess oil inside the buns.

Transfer the golden brown buns onto a plate for presentation, serve with a bowl of prepared dipping sauce, some fresh herbs, and pickled vegetables.

With this simple homemade fried bánh bao recipe, you can delight your family with a delicious and comforting dish on a chilly day. Surely everyone will enjoy it.

Wishing you success in making fried bánh bao!
