Apart from acquiring academic knowledge in school, people also need to learn proper conduct. Therefore, our ancestors have a saying: 'Learn to Eat, Learn to Speak, Learn to Package, Learn to Unveil.' This proverb is a very wise advice.
Exploring the essence of the proverb, we find that the ancient advice encompasses three aspects: People need to learn to eat elegantly, speak graciously, and behave skillfully, at the right time and place. Regarding the advice to 'learn to eat,' we can see its truthfulness. Eating is how individuals express their level of culture and refinement. Every country in the world has its own culinary culture, demonstrating the importance of learning proper dining etiquette. Gentle and refined individuals exhibit lovely dining manners. Our ancestors have a saying: 'The way you eat is the way you are perceived.' It means that meals should be meaningful, adapting behavior according to the situation to earn others' affection and respect. To cultivate children's character, grandparents and parents always emphasize the importance of refined dining. All of these aspects show the real need to 'learn to eat' to further refine human character.
After learning to eat, one must certainly 'learn to speak,' as words are the crucial communication tool of every individual. Artful speech helps deepen relationships and bonds between people. Articulate and gentle words make listeners better understand the issue, and from there, the effectiveness of speech increases, bringing success to eloquent speakers.
