Student's Work:
Fairy tales have become an essential spiritual nourishment, full of sweet childhood memories through the storytelling of grandmothers and mothers, lulling one into a peaceful sleep. Among these fairy tale characters, my favorite is Tấm in the story of Tấm Cám, a gentle and kind-hearted girl who, despite enduring countless hardships, ultimately finds deserving happiness.
In the tale, Tấm's appearance isn't vividly described; it only mentions her as a beautiful, diligent girl. So, in my thoughts, I have my own imaginings of Tấm's image. Tấm must be a beautiful girl, not overly sophisticated, but with a gracious, gentle charm that makes people want to love and cherish her. She isn't very tall, about 1.60 meters, slender but not too thin, looking very healthy. Despite year-round toil, the sun's rays can't darken Tấm's smooth, fair skin; instead, they make her skin appear even more robust. Tấm has a round, plump face, with a moderately high forehead, looking both intelligent and gentle.
Her eyes aren't too large; they're almond-shaped, sparkling with dark lashes, and above them are delicate, naturally black eyebrows that don't need any makeup. She has a small, neat nose, with a proportionate height, harmonizing with her overall facial features. Tấm's lips are as delicate as budding flowers, with a light pink color, exuding a charming and graceful allure. She has long hair that reaches her waist, straight and black, but she often ties it neatly around her head, leaving only a slight curve at the back. Tấm's hands, due to years of labor, aren't as soft and slender as those of many other girls; they're a bit rough and coarse. Being an orphan, Tấm doesn't have many beautiful clothes like Cám; all year round, she only wears brown blouses and black skirts. However, even old and worn-out clothes can't conceal the youthful beauty of the young girl.
Tấm is a very filial girl, always devotedly caring for her family, despite being mistreated by her stepmother and looked down upon by her stepsister, she still tries her best without complaint. It's because of Tấm's kind and virtuous heart that she is repeatedly helped by the Deity. Later on, she becomes the beloved queen of the king, wholeheartedly pampering and enduring many trials and tribulations. Tấm gradually grows stronger and more resilient, ready to stand up against those who plot against her to seize happiness for herself. This is one of the things I like most about Tấm.
Tấm is the epitome of Vietnamese women's beauty, both in appearance and character, daring to rise up against fate to pursue happiness for herself. I deeply admire the character of Tấm because she has brought me many meaningful life lessons.
