II. Exemplary Essay Describing a Literature Class
1. Describing a Literature Class, Sample 1 (Standard)
In the subjects I've studied, such as Mathematics, History, Geography, each one always has a definite answer or correct response. Only in literature, it becomes truly challenging to pinpoint what the author intends to convey in the work. This has driven me to diligently pursue this subject.
Today is the 15th literature class, and the text is 'A Loving Mother's Teaching.' The school bell resonates, students proceed to their seats preparing their literature books. A few minutes later, the teacher enters, the class stands respectfully to greet her. After the initial greetings, the teacher inquires if anyone feels cold. At the beginning of the lesson, she reviews the previous assignment. I volunteered to go to the board, handed in my work, and earned a satisfying 9 in the grade book—a joyful start to the study day.
For the new lesson, the teacher invites students to take turns reading paragraphs of the text. Each student has a unique literary style and tone, none resembling another, and none quite as expressive as the teacher. During the lecture, the entire class listens attentively, with eyes sometimes gazing into the imaginary realms. When the teacher uses the chalk on the board, each stroke precedes the characters on the board, those in the notebook following behind. My class is vibrant and enthusiastic during the literature class, with many questions asked, some amusing enough to make the teacher smile. As the class ends, the teacher praises our engagement and thanks us for our serious study and constructive contributions.
I believe the joy of a teacher is quite simple—imparting knowledge that students genuinely embrace and take seriously. Always respect your teachers and study well to not disappoint them.
2. Describing a Literature Class, Sample 2 (Standard)
The first literature class of 6th grade remains the most memorable for me. Transitioning from Vietnamese language in 5th grade to Literature in 6th grade brought about some confusion.
That day marked the first session of the 6th-grade Literature program, focusing on the text 'The Dragon and the Fairy Descendant.' Initially, the presence of a male teacher teaching literature felt unfamiliar. However, after the teacher introduced himself and the lesson, I noticed the distinct, warm, and engaging tone of his voice. As the class started, the teacher invited a student to read the text, but everyone seemed hesitant. Seeing this, the teacher decided to read the sample first, and then we would take turns. His reading voice was soothing, each word slowly infiltrating my mind. The teacher smoothly navigated through the text, not stumbling on a single word. I was not only impressed but also amazed at my literature teacher.
After finishing the reading, we moved on to comprehending the text. There were many questions about the story, initially seeming challenging to answer. However, with the meticulous explanations and enthusiastic guidance from the teacher, the entire class successfully answered all the questions. The teacher clearly expressed joy as all students understood the lesson and actively participated in learning. Later, he even sang a song for our class, and since then, we held great affection for our literature teacher.
I had to alter my approach to studying literature because it differs from learning Vietnamese. I had to self-study and explore more, not just focus on reading alone.
3. Describing a Literature Class, Sample 3 (Standard)
Typically, girls tend to prefer literature, while boys lean towards math, physics, and chemistry. However, I am the opposite. Despite being a boy, I thoroughly enjoy studying literature, exploring works like novels, stories, and poetry. Therefore, every literature class is my favorite.
Many students often complain that literature is boring, makes them sleepy, or is difficult to remember with too much note-taking. But I understand that it's simply because they don't have an affection for the subject. In my case, I always prepare both physically and mentally for each literature class. On that day, we discussed Thach Sanh's story, a text I had read multiple times at home. As the teacher entered the class, she announced that today we would meet a heroic character, and the whole class burst into laughter.
