II. Sample Essay Describing the Crane
1. Descriptive Essay: The Crane, Sample 1:
My homeland is intertwined with familiar images of a Vietnamese village: the lush bamboo groves swaying in the wind, the rice fields stretching where cranes soar, the herds of buffalo grazing in the afternoon sun... Among them, the image of the pristine white crane perhaps leaves the most impression on me against the azure sky.
The crane is a creature familiar to farmers. Its slender body, not plump but compact under its thick white feathers. It has sharp, alert eyes to search for prey. Its beak is very long, three times longer than a duck's, sharp at the tip and very tough, helping to grip its prey tightly. The crane's wings are long and strong, each time it stretches them out, it looks like an artist in a long white dress gracefully dancing. The crane's legs are very thin, but sturdy. Its steps are cautious, step by step seeking prey, then preparing to take flight high in the sky to search for small fish. When spring comes, the fields spread out with fresh greenery, and it's time for the crane flock to come together to forage, catching the snails that harm the rice fields of farmers. When summer arrives, after the harvest is complete, the cranes gather to pick up the remaining grains of rice in the fields.
The image of the pristine white crane has become an indispensable symbol in prosperous rural areas. The crane will always be the close friend of farmers.
2. Descriptive Essay: The Crane, Sample 2 (Standard):
In rural fields, especially during the ripe rice season, one often encounters the sight of graceful white cranes soaring over the fields.
The crane boasts pristine white feathers, a long beak for foraging, slender yet sturdy legs. Its petite, elongated body is complemented by long wings that, when spread wide, resemble a graceful dancer waltzing amidst the sky. The crane's diet consists of shrimp, snails, and fish found in fields, ponds, and lakes, making it a friendly creature to humans and harmless to crops. When accompanying my mother to the fields during harvest season, I often come across cranes nesting in the rice fields, including the charming nests of young cranes scattered amidst the fields.
The crane is a familiar creature in every Vietnamese village, intertwined with the childhood memories of each individual. Whenever the crane is mentioned, echoes of my mother's songs resonate in my mind:
“The heron wanders in the night
On a soft branch, it perches, plunging its neck into the pond
Oh sir, fish me out of this plight
If you have a kind heart, please stir the bamboo shoots”
I hold a deep affection for the heron due to its familiarity and simple beauty.
3. Descriptive Essay: The Crane, Sample 3 (Standard):
Although I haven't seen a heron in real life, through my mother's lullabies, grandmother's folk tales, and movies, I've come to know about the heron.
