II. Sample Essay Describing a Water Lake
As the evening sun casts its warm glow, the village pond becomes a gathering place for the locals. Adults engage in leisurely conversations, some fetching water to nourish the surrounding trees. Meanwhile, energetic children splash around, chasing vibrant water lilies. Their laughter echoes, harmonizing with the spirited song of a bird enthralled by the lively scene.
The village pond, a cherished companion for all. I hold a special affection for that beautiful aquatic haven.

In addition to describing the pond, honing writing skills can involve tackling common prompts like: Depicting the serene village stream, Describing the village pond, Painting a picture of the hometown river, or Sketching the quaint village lake.
On a serene summer vacation, my parents took me to the heart of Hanoi to explore the legendary Ho Guom, leaving me with enchanting memories of this ancient lake.
Ho Guom, a renowned scenic spot in our country, captivates with its picturesque beauty both in photos and in reality. Situated in the center of the capital, the lake exudes a majestic and ancient charm that leaves visitors in awe. Its vast, deep waters reflect the clear, tranquil surface like a giant mirror mirroring the sky. Ho Guom is intertwined with the legend of the Turtle holding the sword of King Le Loi in history, a tale my father used to narrate to me. The name Hoan Kiem for the lake also originates from that story. Surrounding the lake, ancient trees and long-standing flowers create a lush green landscape. The willow and bamboo trees, gracefully leaning over the water, resemble young girls admiring their reflections, adding a touch of charm. Whenever a gentle breeze passes, the leaves gently detach from the branches, dancing in the air before gracefully landing on the lake like small boats.
Strolling around the lake, I explored Ngoc Son Temple, Turtle Tower, Ink Stand, and the charming red The Huc Bridge guiding tourists to the venerable Ngoc Son Temple. In front of the temple stands an ancient banyan tree, lush and vibrant, casting a shade over a considerable area. Standing on The Huc Bridge, looking out, you can see Turtle Tower majestically rising from the middle of the lake. Mentioning Ho Guom, one cannot forget the image of Turtle Tower, an iconic symbol of this cultural heritage. The tower, situated on an open space in the middle of the lake, with moss-covered walls, exudes an ancient and solemn beauty.
Ho Guom, with its rich history and breathtaking beauty, is a must-visit destination that showcases the cultural and architectural essence of Hanoi. The blend of nature and ancient structures creates an atmosphere of tranquility and timelessness, making it a unique and unforgettable experience for any visitor.
Every day, during every morning, the local residents gather by the lake for group exercises. As evening falls, Hoan Kiem Lake becomes bustling with domestic and international tourists, coming to explore, have fun, and enjoy the cool breeze. In the heart of the vibrant capital, amidst the hustle and bustle, there lies a serene and tranquil Hoan Kiem Lake, quietly witnessing thousands of years of history. Hoan Kiem Lake is not only beautiful in its inherent charm but also carries a cultural essence, a unique national identity, making it one of our country's most famous landmarks. Visiting Hoan Kiem Lake, I gained a deeper understanding of history, the legends of our ancestors, admired the architectural wonders of our people, and felt a sense of pride in the distinctive traditions of the Vietnamese nation.
Perhaps, whether in the past, present, or future, Hoan Kiem Lake will always remain a famous landmark, engraved in the hearts of every Vietnamese. After the journey to explore Hoan Kiem Lake, I harvested many new and enriching experiences, and I hope to return to Hoan Kiem Lake to immerse myself in its beautiful and magnificent scenery.
3. Describing the water lake, sample 3:
Xuan Huong Lake is a stunning crescent-shaped water lake, situated in the center of Da Lat city. Surrounding the lake are vibrant green pine forests, known as the city's lungs, along with meadows and flower gardens.
Hồ Xuân Hương is a favorite destination for tourists to stroll or ride horses when visiting the city of Da Lat. Hồ Xuân Hương is an artificial lake, with a circumference of about 5 km and a width of 25 hectares. The vast expanse of the lake extends beyond the eyesight. The lake water has a dark green color due to the shadows of pine trees, against the clear sky, and the coolness of drifting clouds. The calm and clear water reflects houses, streets, and trees on both sides of the banks like a painted picture. Every time my family comes here, we always stop by Thuỷ Tạ - an architectural highlight associated with Hồ Xuân Hương to take some souvenir photos, have a drink, and admire the lake. Thuỷ Tạ is a white house with a prominent wide railing on the lake. From a distance, it looks like the silhouette of a luxurious yacht. At the head of the lake is the ticket booth area for tourists to play with duck paddles. This place is bustling with stalls, horse carriages, tandem bicycles, and more.
The ripples from the duck paddling disturb the lake's surface, creating a ripple effect that spreads from the guests' ducks. The gentle breeze causes the lake to ripple like fish scales on a flat surface like a mirror. The bushes along the shore also sway with the wind, gently trembling when a fish nibbles at the water's surface. In the distance, about a dozen middle-aged and elderly men are leisurely fishing with a fishing rod, enjoying a cup of coffee or a newspaper. The atmosphere is incredibly open and pleasant due to the cool moisture rising from the lake. The pine trees around the lake also sing a soft melody, praising the picturesque beauty of the land of a thousand flowers and mist. Some white vapors rise from the lake, creating a floating and mystical feeling.
Sitting and admiring Hồ Xuân Hương, a nostalgic feeling lingers in my heart. I feel that the beauty of my homeland is overwhelming. Beautiful like a poem, a piece of music, and a painting that can only be found in the place where I was born and raised.
4. Describing the water lake, sample 4:
In our village, there's the ancient Bồng shrine, the serene Rô pond, and the Quan ferry dock. These timeless sceneries are deeply intertwined with the affection and memories of the local residents, especially those who have ventured far for their livelihoods.
Each scene possesses its own unique charm, but my heart belongs to Rô pond. It's just over a hundred meters from the Bồng shrine. To reach the district or province, one must traverse the main route: Bồng shrine - Rô pond - Quan ferry.
Rô pond spans nearly 4 hectares to the west. The pond's bank is sturdily constructed, and as it is not used for fish farming, its water remains clear throughout the four seasons. Almost half of the pond is adorned with lotus flowers. During late spring and throughout the three summer months, vibrant red lotus blossoms emit a fragrant scent, enveloping the entire village. Boating on Rô pond is strictly prohibited. Families in need of boats launch handmade ones for entertainment, but they must retrieve them after use.
Every morning on our way to school, we pass by Rô pond. In the evenings returning from school, we pause to admire Rô pond, the ancient banyan tree, and Mr. Hộ Pháp, whose robust figure stands proudly at the entrance of the shrine. Summer moonlit nights and autumn moonlit nights, spent with older siblings rowing handmade boats on Rô pond, are unforgettable and eternally cherished. The village appears beautiful at any time, but when gazing upon Rô pond, there's an added sense of dreaminess and charm.
All of us gathered by Rô pond to gaze into the mirror, each feeling our faces radiant and beautiful.
5. Describing a water lake, sample 5:
Ho Guom is situated in the heart of Hanoi's capital. The lake's surface resembles a large oval-shaped mirror. In the middle of the lake, the Turtle Tower rises gracefully. When clouds float and the wind blows, the Turtle Tower seems to cling to the sky, floating up and down with the wind and clouds. At times, the lake is as clear as glass, reflecting the blue sky and white clouds. On the lake's edge, under the branches of phoenix trees, are stone benches where, after every afternoon school session, I and my friends would sit to boast about our grades. As summer arrives, the buzzing of cicadas blends with the chirping of birds in the clusters of trees, creating a harmonious and prolonged symphony. In the morning, when the sun awakens, casting its first rays, the lake appears to be coated in gold. In the distance, the curved Thê Húc bridge, painted in red ochre, resembles a hill-shaped lure. It leads to Ngoc Son Temple, a historical relic. On the bridge, I used to feed the fish with my sister. Every time the wind blows, the lake's surface ripples, reminding me of the image of fish chasing prey. The willow sisters nearby gracefully let their long hair fall to the ground as if combing it. The straight-standing male willows, towering high, seem to reach for the sky. During festivals, the lake sparkles and dazzles amid thousands of colorful lights. People joyfully sing and cheer. My mother and I would sit on the floating restaurant on the water's surface. It was Thuy Ta restaurant. Not far from there, a large building emerges—it's the city's Post Office. On its roof, a large clock resonates with ticking sounds. Wafting everywhere is the gentle fragrance of milk flowers. Milk flower blossoms fall onto the shoulders of passersby. No wonder, my friend Huong always sniffs and inhales deeply to savor that magical moment.
In the future, even if I travel far, I will never forget Ho Guom with its familiar fragrance of milk flowers, a place that has been closely tied to me throughout my childhood with countless beautiful memories.
