Designing Ad Templates with Word on MAC
Step 1:Open Brochure Layout
On your Mac, access the dock, then find the Microsoft Word icon. If the Word icon is not on the dock, access Finder. From Finder => Applications. Microsoft Word is located under Applications. Open the Microsoft Word icon.
Now your task is to find the icon at the top left corner similar to the minimize screen on Mac. When you hover over it, a popup window appears on the screen saying: 'New From Template'. Click on that popup window. And a new layout appears, select the link Publishing Layout View in the Brochures column on the left side. Then click on any image and click choose at the bottom right corner to select the layout for the Brochure you want.
Step 2:Choose a Theme
Next, look at the top right corner, you will see a box named Themes. Here are the themes you can choose from. Click on a theme you want to select, and the theme will appear on your Brochure.
Step 3:Edit Text Box
There are 3 important steps to consider when editing a Text Box:
- Resizing the Text Box
To resize the text box, first make sure you have clicked on the text box. Then click on any of the corners and drag. You'll know you're doing this correctly if the cursor turns into a double-sided arrow.
- Repositioning the Text Box
To reposition a text box, first make sure you have clicked on the text box. Then hover outside the text box until the four-sided arrow icon appears. Once this icon is visible, click on it and drag the text box to any position you desire.
- Adding a Border to the Text Box
To add a border to a text box, first ensure you have selected the text box. Then access the Format Picture tab at the top corner of the screen, click on the arrow icon next to the Line button located in the middle of the screen.
Now you can choose the color and thickness of the line you want. To select a color, simply choose the desired color from the provided options. To choose the weight or thickness of the border, look under the Weights options. Click on the option, and you will be taken to another box. From this box, you can choose the weight or thickness of the border.
Step 4:Editing Picture Box
Editing an image is quite similar to editing a text box, with a few minor details:
- Resizing the Image
To resize an image, first make sure you have selected the image. Then click on any corner and drag. You'll know you're doing this correctly if the cursor turns into a double-sided arrow.
- Adjusting Image Position
To adjust the position of an image, make sure you have selected the image. Then, hover outside the image until the four-sided arrow icon appears. When the icon appears, click on it and drag the image to any position you want.
- Adding Border to Image
To add a border to an image, first ensure you have clicked on the image. Then, access the Format Picture tab at the top corner of the screen, and click on the arrow icon next to the Border button. Now you can choose the color and thickness of the border you desire.
To select a color, simply choose the desired color from the provided options. To choose the block or thickness of the border, look under the Weights option. Click on the option, and you will be taken to another box. From this box, you can choose the block or thickness of the border.
Step 5: Edit Picture Box - Adjusting Image Sharpness
Adjust the sharpness/softness to make the image clearer or softer.
All you have to do to adjust the sharpness or softness of the image: first make sure the image is selected, then access the Format Picture tab.
Under the Format Picture tab, click on the Corrections button. Then access the Sharpen and Soften heading. Here, you can choose the level of sharpness or softness you want for the image.
Step 6:Edit Picture Box - Recoloring
Recoloring an image can alter color saturation, color tone intensity, or completely change the image's color.
- Color saturation: adjusting the brightness of the background color in the image:
To adjust the color saturation of the image, all you need to do is: first click on the image, then access the Format Picture tab, click on the arrow icon next to the Recolor button. Next, access the Color Saturation heading. Here, you can choose the saturation level you want for the image.
- Color Tone: adjusting the intensity of colors and adding more light to your image
To change the color tone, all you need to do is: first click on the image, then access the Format Picture tab, click on the arrow icon next to the Recolor button. Next, access the Color Tone heading. Here, you can choose the intensity of the color tone for the image.
- Recolor: adding a color filter to the image
To add a color filter, first ensure you've clicked on the image, then access the Format Picture tab, find and click on the arrow icon next to the Recolor button. Next, access the Recolor heading and choose the color filter you want on your image.
Step 7:Editing Picture Box - filters

To add filters to your image, make sure you've clicked on the image. Then access the Format Picture tab, find and click on the arrow icon next to the Filters button. Here, you can choose the filters you want for your image.
Step 8:Editing Picture Box - remove background
Removing background - this helps eliminate unwanted spaces around the image.
To remove the background of the image, first ensure you've clicked on the image, then access the Format Picture tab. Here, find and click on the Remove background button. To remove unwanted background around the image, simply move the circular and square icons around the area you want. Then click on the image to see the result.
Step 9:Save
To save the brochure, look to the top left corner, find and click on File =>Save As. Name the ad you just created and save it to any location you want.
Step 10:Print
After designing the advertisement template using Word on Mac, you may want to print the brochure you just created for your work. To print the ad, click on File in the top left corner. Under the File section, find and click on Print. Simply press the Print button located in the bottom right corner and that's it, you've completed the process.
