The senior T1 players have yet to establish a record like the T1 Challengers team.
In recent years, the most iconic rivalry in the world of League of Legends, particularly in the LCK, has been between Gen.G and T1. Throughout their successful journey, it has often been the case that one team emerges victorious while the other becomes the loser in decisive matches. Specifically, from the LCK Spring 2022 season to date, T1 and Gen.G have faced each other in four finals, with T1 losing three out of four matches. Even in group stage or playoffs, the competition between the two teams is incredibly close, with both teams evenly matched, leading to continuous banter between fans whenever their favorite teams clash.
In this year's season, the showdown between T1 and Gen.G promises to be even more exciting, with one side being the reigning LCK champions and the other being the reigning champions of Worlds 2023. On the opening day, T1 suffered another defeat against Gen.G. However, T1's players themselves admit that they experimented with various strategies in the match, so audiences are eagerly anticipating a rematch in the second leg. Especially considering that Gen.G nearly lost if not for Canyon's calm handling of the Baron situation.
T1 has consistently fallen to Gen.G on all fronts in recent times (only managing to win 3 times, twice in the LCK Spring 2023 group stage and once at MSI 2023). Since the LCK Summer 2023 season, T1 has not secured any victories against Gen.G, and Faker and his teammates' only defeat at Worlds 2023 was also against Gen.G. However, recently, the younger T1 Challengers squad secured a 2-0 victory against the young Gen.G team. In particular, Poby and Smash were awarded MVPs for their performances in the two matches.
Clearly, despite both Gen.G and T1's young teams performing poorly at the moment, T1's convincing victory is also an encouraging sign. Moreover, Rekkles is demonstrating excellent integration and may be the sixth factor when T1 participates in international tournaments. Therefore, the young T1 lineup is also receiving considerable attention, not inferior to their senior counterparts.
As for the main lineup, T1 has maintained an unbeaten record since their defeat against Gen.G. With the fluctuation of the remaining three contenders, it is highly likely that the LCK Spring 2024 season will remain a two-horse race between Gen.G and T1. Surely, both teams are also poised to set a record: the most consecutive appearances in finals in LCK history.
