The Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime comes with a 2,400 mAh battery. Through real-world testing, it has been demonstrated that the device can achieve almost 9.5 hours of on-screen time, nearly 24 hours of mixed usage, and over 11.5 hours of continuous video playback. Below are more detailed insights into the device's battery usage and the process followed to obtain these figures.
Test Parameters:
Utilizing stock Android 6.0.1 without customization, not rooted. Screen brightness consistently set at 50% (no auto-brightness). Wifi + 3G + Location + Sync always enabled. Testing environment: outdoor temperatures ranging from 27℃ - 31℃ throughout the day. Apps utilized during testing: Facebook, Messenger (FB), default Browser, Asphalt 8, CPU-Z, Battery Widget, MX Player.
Testing Procedure:
Each task was tested for 30 minutes until the battery depleted, including web browsing (web + chat + fb + news reading), YouTube streaming, gaming (Asphalt 8), all conducted via Wifi.
During standby, mail was continuously pushed, and Facebook messages were received.
Continuous movie playback involved testing with The Jungle Book 720p x264.

However, the J5 Prime surprisingly outlasts its sibling, the J7 Prime, in terms of battery life. In my previous test, the Galaxy J7 Prime with a 3,300 mAh battery lasted for 23 hours and 20 minutes in mixed usage and had an on-screen time of over 9 hours and 20 minutes. In comparison, the J5 Prime, with its 2,400 mAh battery, achieved an on-screen time of 9 hours and 29 minutes, resulting in a mixed usage duration of 23 hours and 43 minutes.
This mixed usage duration translates to being able to use the device until 6:43 AM the following day after charging to full at 7:00 AM. With such endurance, the J5 Prime can meet the needs of most users, even those with demanding requirements like continuous gaming. Similar to the J7 Prime, the J5 Prime remains relatively cool during usage, only warming up slightly during prolonged heavy tasks.
Continuous Movie Playback Duration: 11 hours and 36 minutes
Real-world testing has revealed that the device's continuous movie playback time is approximately 11 hours and 36 minutes. Regarding charging speed, due to the manufacturer only including a 5V-1A charger in the box, it takes quite a while to fully charge the device's 2,400 mAh battery. It takes 2 hours and 45 minutes to charge the J5 Prime from empty to 100%.
