Currently, not all air purifiers feature Philips UV-C technology. With the Steri Expert air purifier, users will have the option of air purification + germicidal sterilization using UV-C light.
Steri Expert is a product provided by Solar Light Company (BHL), utilizing original components from the Philips brand by Signify (formerly Philips Lighting). The UV-C germicidal solution is highly recommended.Simplicity in Design, Ease of Use
Lacking the captivating and modern design found in air purifiers focused solely on aesthetics, the Steri Expert sports a simple white and black color combination. The product appears somewhat understated, unlikely to woo users who prioritize design when purchasing a mid-sized air purifier for indoor use. However, this design will complement many living spaces, minimizing clashes with the overall decor.
The overall construction of the machine, along with its individual components and user-friendly control panel, makes it easy to use and approachable. Adjusting the filtration level to personal preferences is effortless for everyone, and mastering the operation of the machine is quick and intuitive for all.The version I experienced comes in size L, the largest option. Additionally, there are sizes S and M available. However, I found size L to be comparable to other air purifiers on the market, not excessively large. According to the manufacturer, this size is suitable for spaces up to 55 square meters.
For me, the area of the air intake surface of an air purifier is also crucial. The Steri Expert has 4 air intake surfaces around it, but the surface area is not uniform. The rear panel and the 2 sides will capture more air.
The machine features a single control dial with different notches for easy adjustment to each level. The rotation through each mode is clear: wind mode, scheduled sterilization, and dust density displayed in 3 colors. The intuitive display panel, LED lights, minimal parameters, and easy-to-understand design make it suitable for a wide range of users.

UV-C technology comes with a valuable triple-layer dust filter.
UV-C Chamber
UV rays (ultraviolet) are invisible radiation to the human eye, which can be classified into 3 types.UV-C ranges from 100-280 nm; UV-B ranges from 280-315 nm, and UV-A ranges from 315-400 nm.With 35 years of experience in UV-C light research, Signify (Philips Lighting) has applied and developed a variety of solutions for disinfection, air purification, surface cleaning, and objects.Filter membranes
The machine features 3 fundamental filter layers: Pre-filter/ HEPA filter/ Activated carbon filter.- Among them: The HEPA filter helps eliminate: bacteria, pet dander, pollen, household dust..., dust with a size of 0.3 micrometers with a 99.97% ratio.
- Previously, during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, Philips UV-C light source was applied in UV-C disinfection lamp products, including sealed air purifiers with UV-C lights inside (small size). They also obtained certifications, experiments on the effectiveness of using UVC ultraviolet rays for disinfection. Until this product, I see they have perfected everything, both in size, as well as functionality equivalent to other air purifiers on the market with additional bactericidal, disinfection technology using UVC rays. The Steri Expert air purifier boasts a display light that adjusts according to air quality changes, accurately detecting fine dust (PM 2.5, CO2, formaldehyde, TVOC, and other air pollutants). My Experience
The machine holds a significant advantage in both dust filtration and bacteria elimination through UV-C rays. However, after my trial period, I've noted a few minor drawbacks. Though they don't heavily impact usability:
Significant noise occurs when activating the fan at maximum speed, akin to heavy rain, with substantial particles. At the lowest fan setting, approximately 50-60dB - equivalent to moderate conversation volume in a room.
There's only one outlet for clean air, which blows upward. While the machine limits bacterial growth, especially those clinging to its surface when blown out, I find the air push force and the area for expelling clean air somewhat limited.
This air purifier can effectively operate in spaces up to 55 square meters and is suitable for office environments, though I believe it performs best in areas around 30 square meters. Here are the things that really pleased me during usage:
The color display screen indicates air quality clearly. If the sensor light turns orange/red, it means the air quality is poor. I activate the highest fan speed mode to quickly refresh the air. It's a great feature, swiftly addressing air quality concerns for users.
Since using the device in my 25m2 workspace and air quality monitor, both consistently maintain good readings, always displaying a green light. Even with plenty of foot traffic, notably, I've experienced fewer sneezes before placing the device near my desk. The rear cover is a bit tricky to remove initially, and I struggled a bit to take out the inner filter. However, once you know how, it's straightforward to clean and maintain.
In summary, this machine performs quite well: air filtration and sterilization. Air purification is more effective, resulting in cleaner air during usage. The Steri Expert is priced at under 15 million. For an air purifier, it's a bit high, but compared to units without the accompanying Philips UV-C bulbs for sterilization, provided by the Sunlight Illumination Company, I find it reasonable within its segment. For those interested in the product, you can check it out here.
