Subaru has unveiled its inaugural all-electric SUV, the Subaru Solterra 2023, at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The Solterra boasts cutting-edge technologies while maintaining Subaru's heritage of safety and versatile performance across diverse terrains and climates.Modern Design & Emphasis on Practicality
Subaru Solterra is developed based on the Subaru Dynamic X Solid design style, showcased through the flexibility in the design of the e-Subaru Global Platform. At the front, Subaru's characteristic hexagonal grille is seamlessly integrated with the front bumper. The slim and wide LED headlights complement this design pattern. The low roofline contributes to an aesthetically pleasing appearance, aerodynamic efficiency, and excellent visibility of the SUV, all while ensuring pedestrian collision safety.
The sloping rear windshield, aerodynamically designed with dual air flaps above and ducktail-shaped air flaps below. At the rear of the car, the taillight cluster is positioned high, featuring a bold and robust trapezoidal design.
Agile Performance & Efficiency
The name 'Solterra' is crafted by combining Latin words for 'Sun' and 'Earth,' symbolizing Subaru's commitment to creating an SUV that is robust while remaining environmentally friendly.
The Subaru Solterra is equipped with the renowned symmetrical all-wheel-drive system, S-AWD, powered smoothly by Subaru StarDrive®️️️️ technology. This ensures outstanding traction and performance in various weather conditions and terrains. Subaru StarDrive delivers on-demand torque at all speeds, with power and energy recovery modes selected by the driver.
With a passenger and cargo capacity of up to 3,568 liters, ample legroom, and a nearly flat floor, this 5-seater SUV provides a spacious, expansive feel akin to a large-sized SUV. The Solterra offers cargo space of up to 850, with a 60/40 folding rear seat and a two-position adjustable cargo floor, providing maximum flexibility for both cargo and passengers.
The rear door, 1.05m wide, with adjustable height, facilitates easy loading and unloading of cargo. The available roof rack provides additional cargo-carrying options for the owner's weekend getaways.
Modern, Premium Amenities
The Solterra features an entirely new multimedia system with a 12.3-inch touchscreen. The advanced infotainment system comes equipped with wireless Apple CarPlay®️️️ and Android Auto™️ connectivity, along with a wireless phone charging pad available on the center console.
Smartphone app connectivity includes remote climate control and remote lock/unlock, both contributing to a more convenient connection between the driver and the vehicle. The remote climate control system can automatically warm or cool the car before departure, even when parked in the garage or a parking lot.
Advanced Safety Technology
The Subaru Solterra boasts a comprehensive suite of active safety technologies, including the EyeSight®️️️ Driver Assist Technology and a blind-spot monitoring system with lane change assist and rear cross-traffic alert. Additionally, the vehicle features an active parking assist system that can engage the brakes if an obstacle is detected while backing up.
For the first time in a Subaru, the 360-degree Surround View Camera system enhances situational awareness. Another innovative technology from Subaru, the Solterra is equipped with a safety assistance system when exiting the vehicle. This new safety feature notifies occupants before exiting about approaching vehicles through audible and visual warnings.
The Subaru Solterra utilizes the new e-SUBARU global platform, designed to integrate three key elements: symmetrical all-wheel drive capability, agile driving dynamics, and Subaru's world-class passive safety system.
The Solterra's LED headlight system includes High Beam Assist technology, allowing drivers to use high beams without affecting oncoming vehicles. Subaru's new electric SUV comes standard with front airbags for the driver and front passenger, side curtain airbags, side-impact airbags, and front driver and passenger knee airbags.
The Subaru Solterra is set to be officially released in the middle of next year, with the pricing yet to be disclosed. However, there's a high likelihood it will be competitive with Toyota's electric bZ4X!
