Release Date of Sun Island Map in Free Fire
Clearly, the map will be part of Free Fire's New Year celebration event, following the OB32 version update on January 19, 2022. The Sun Island map is the fifth map added to the game, joining Bermuda, Purgatory, Kalahari, and Bermuda Remastered. Additionally, the 'Holiday Season' event will kick off on the release date of FF OB32.
Details about the Sun Island Map in Free Fire
While both Sun Island and Purgatory are situated at high altitudes, the front focuses more on residential areas and regular facilities, while the back emphasizes tourist attractions with Carousel and Snowfall being prominent landmarks. Cleverly designed, Sun Island bears a striking resemblance to Bermuda, featuring the same river dividing the southern part of the map.
The map will introduce numerous new features like trains, helicopters, wind-powered generators, breakable fences, new decorative vehicles, new construction projects, fresh structures, and exclusive buildings.
- There will be 6 major residential centers or cities on the island:
+ Militia is a standard military compound found on all Free Fire islands. Positioned at the heart of the Sun Island map, this could be the hottest spot for players.
+ Snowfall to the northwest is the only area on the map covered in snow. It boasts a collection of Japanese-themed buildings.
+ Railroad is the next significant location on the map. It will include trains... although there are no signs indicating Free Fire players can use them, at least for now.
+ Stadium is a sports complex in the south of the map. It will feature a basketball court.
+ Forest Red will be a residential area with large red trees.
+ Dock is the final major location, housing two massive warehouses brimming with loot.

What inspired the development of the Sun Island map in Free Fire?
Garena explains that Sun Island is developed based on a diverse and biologically rich mountainous region, near snow-capped peaks and dense forests. It may draw inspiration from the Alps, a mountain range in the heart of Europe. Natural forests and grasslands are found on the lower mountain slopes, but as altitude increases and temperatures drop, vegetation becomes scarcer, replaced by snow.
In general, this is a quite unique map based on an area that other battle royale games have not truly explored before. The closest to Sun Island is PUBG's Vikendi, although with much less snow.
Alongside this, the Free Fire OB31 New Era version introduces the new character Naitri. His skills allow for the recovery of HP through an ice wall and the ability to amplify damage against enemies, suitable for endgame battles.
